Obituary

Miles, Sandra Kay “Sandy” (Harville)

MADISON - Sandra Kay “Sandy” (Harville) Miles passed away on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022. She was born on Oct. 2, 1947, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of the late Nod (Steffan) and Lewis Harville. Sandra grew up in Iowa and attended Valley High School in Elgin, where she met the love of her life, Randy. They married in June of 1970 and were married for 13 years, until Randy passed away in 1983.

After high school, Sandy attended the University of Iowa and completed licensed practitioner nurse (LPN) training in 1967. After graduation from nursing school, she moved to Madison and worked in the Medical ICU at Madison General Hospital. Sandy retired in December of 2011 after 37 years of nursing. While she enjoyed her early nursing years at the hospital, Sandy eventually made the transition to working in family practice. She loved the change in nursing focus. Sandy would often talk about the families that would come into the clinic and how she thoroughly enjoyed watching the children thrive and the families grow together.

Left to cherish Sandy’s memory are her daughter, Amy (John Silbernagel); and son, Jason; her adored granddaughter, Nicole Cochems; sister, Suzie (Harville) Anderson; brother, Nick (Ginger) Harville; nephew, Sean Anderson; niece, Tina Duffenbach; and great-nieces and great-nephew, Taylor (Derek) Lusk, Noah (Mikayla) Duffenbach and Ryann Duffenbach. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Randy; aunt, Dorothy Steffen; and other aunts, uncles and family members.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 1 p.m., on Saturday, March 5, 2022. Burial will follow at Verona Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday, March 5, 2022.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be gifted to Agrace Hospice and Supportive Care.

The family would like to thank the staff at Agrace and express great gratitude to the nurses and CNAs at Agrace Janesville. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Amy and family, my deepest sympathy to you. I first met your mom in 1970 while working at Dean Clinic, where I worked in the lab. She struck me as a smart, friendly, and caring nurse. Later in our careers, we reconnected at Verona Family Medical. She had always been one of my favorite people to work with. I will always remember her smile and gentle ways. She was a very talented LPN, and a truly wonderful individual.

Amy, Jason and family, Hearing of the passing of Sandy I am sending my sympathy, thoughts and prayers. I worked with Sandy at UW Verona for many years until she left to work at her new clinic. We became very close instantly and I loved working with her. She was so kind, compassionate, loving and full of Grace. She became a close friend and took my two young daughter's into her life as they were her own. They grew to love her as I did. We missed her very much as the years after she left Verona separated us. She is home now, no more pain only peace and Joy. Hugs to all of you. RIP Sandra. 💕

I have not seen Sandy in many years but when I heard of her passing, I knew I needed to pay my respects. I worked at the Verona Clinic when I was on faculty at the University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine between 1987 and 1999. Sandy was one of the nurses who often worked with me. She was a delight to work with, was very skilled, and always had excellent suggestions to the care of a patient. My patients often commented on how she made them feel so comfortable and how upbeat she was. I could always depend on Sandy. To the family, I send my deepest sympathies. Jim Damos, MD
