MADISON - Theodore J. “Teddy” Klade Jr., age 87, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021, at Chamomile Assisted Living. He left his earthly home to go to his forever home, Heaven, to be with God, Jesus, and his loved ones.
Ted was born on July 15, 1933, in Madison, the son of Aletta (Lewison) and Theodore J. Klade Sr. Born during the Great Depression, Ted grew up in a blended family of eight children-the oldest of his parents’ four boys. Ted helped support the family with a paper route while still in grade school, and he left high school to work full-time. Along the way, he learned mechanical repair and construction. Ted served in the National Guard and worked for many years as a truck driver for Neuendorf Transportation.
Ted married Lois June Baker on Aug. 8, 1953, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison. They raised their children in Monona and later in rural Deerfield, where they enjoyed country living. Ted and Lois June were animal lovers, and they rescued many cats over the years.
Ted was an avid auto racing fan. He had a passion for cars and Indy Car Racing. He attended many races with Lois June and best friend Tony over the years, including NASCAR, The Indy 500, sprint car races, and the Knoxville Nationals. Ted and Lois June also liked going to country and bluegrass music festivals. Some of Ted’s best memories came from family camping trips in Northern Wisconsin.
Ted was a lifetime member of Bethel Lutheran; his strong faith was always very important to him. He was proud of the volunteer work he did at SHARE in Butler, Wisconsin. Ted also used his construction skills on mission trips to Puerto Rico, and he raised money on his own for multiple sclerosis research.
Ted is survived by his daughter, Karen Louise (fiancé, Michael Kile-Rasmussen) Purtell; son, Timothy John “Tim” Klade; brother, David (Karen) Klade; two sisters, Delores Lavin and Ann (Bob Mumford) Brewer; best friend, Tony (Mary) Geier; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family in the Tomahawk area; many dear friends; and beloved kitties. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; three sisters, Kathryn, Alice, and Pam; three brothers, Jerry, Richard, and Lorian; and infant daughter, Karen Kay.
A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, 2021. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday with Pastor Shannon Colwin presiding and Ann Brewer as pianist. Hi Karen and Tim that was a beautiful funeral your dad helped me out every Sunday at bethel. I was the caretaker he helped me strip and wax floors which had to be perfect and I always fed him lunch. Ted loved to eat. Then in 2005 I took Red to Florida we stayed on the beach on sanibel island for 10 days then went to wait Disney World and then to your aunt and uncle in Sarasota. Ted and I would switch off driving and Tim your right he did like to speed. I set the cruise up for there 50 th in Hawaii but then my friend bea changed her mind and wanted to go to Caribbean. So Lois June and ted went to Hawau and enjoyed there 50th anniversary. Ted helped me so much with my boat and work at bethel. He was a special guy. If you need anything or have me take care of cats please let me know. Thank you and God bless ted and Lois June. Jeff Swenson 608-283-9471
