Ronald J. "Jim" "Pops" Brown

MADISON-Ronald James "Jim" "Pops" Brown, age 79, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018. He was born on Aug.15, 1939, in Portage, the son of Ronald and Loretta (Bindley) Brown. Jim worked for the U.S. Navy for 21 years, during the Vietnam War and then continued to serve in the U.S. Navy Reserves for nine years. Jim married Phyllis Halterman who preceded him in death. Pops had a big heart and was generous with his love. His was the home that all of the neighborhood kids would come for fun, and because he provided a safe refuge from whatever they needed. Pops had a great sense of humor. He was a proud patriot and devoted his entire life to the service of our country. Jim is survived by his sons, Donald Brown and Ronald James (Kim Wedel) Halterman-Brown; grandchild, Michael D. Halterman-Brown; six stray children, Dave (Arlene) West, Sarah Hazuga, Travis Lion, Mike Bloustein, Corey Jewa, and many others; sisters, Susan (Karla Tigges) Brown and Sandra Brill; brother, Douglas Brown; lifelong friend, Robert Samplawski; and former daughter-in-law, Liz Bloedow. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Phyllis Mae Halterman. A memorial service will be held at EAGLES CLUB, 2109 Bartillon Dr., Madison, at 4 pm, on Wednesday Nov. 7, 2018. Family will be welcoming friends from 3 pm until the time of the service, then again following the service until 8 pm. A light meal will be served following the service.
