So sorry to learn of this. I have such good memories of Mrs Byrne. I met her in summer of 1980 Just before her youngest son John left for a year long Exchange program in Finland. She raised some wonderful Children most of them I met. Patrick was in my class at West Side High in Madison. Rest In Peace .

Mary was a wonderful woman, spirited, intelligent, energetic and genuinely interested in the lives of others. I feel lucky to have known her. Mary’s son John and I became good friends during high school, but funnily enough I met Mary before John - she was riding home on a bus from work at the Kohler Art library and I still remember hearing her voice for the first time like it was yesterday. I was standing next to Mary (or over her I should say, I remember thinking how can this small woman have such a loud voice) while she was debating with the bus driver about the importance of humanities in young people’s education. “Kids shouldn’t simply go to university to get a job, but experience the arts” or something like that. I chimed in and we started a friendship after that soon extended to her wonder family, the “Bryne boys” as my ma would say. "Ma Weaves" (and grandma) also became friends with Mary, and they certainly enjoyed hearing her stories, even if sometimes they were fairly zany! Mary was never one to let a thought go unchallenged, and I really loved that. I will miss Mary, this world will be a smaller place without her.
