ARLINGTON-Raymond Keith Redell, age 81, a lifetime resident of Arlington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, at home. Ray was born on October 10, 1937, in Lodi, the son of Herman A. and Gay C. (Jordan) Redell, the youngest of three sons. He married the love of his life, Janet Schurz on January 13, 1971, at the United Methodist Church in Arlington. Ray grew up on the family farm in Arlington and was determined to stay in the area. He proudly built his home from the ground up with his own hands and remained there for the rest of his life. In between he snowmobiled in Iceland, saw polar bears in Alaska, toured through Europe, spent winters in Mesa, AZ, and countless hours at the family cabin in Chetek. He and his wife Janet also traveled extensively in their RV across the United States. He proudly served as a lifetime member of Operating Engineers Local 139. Ray was a master of all trades and continually looked to improve everything around him. He was an avid Badgers and Packer fan. Ray loved water sports, ATV-ing, hunting, snowmobiling, and supported The Prairie Drifters, The Chetek Snow Flyers, and the NRA. Ray is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janet; his daughters, Jordan Leigh, and Michelle (Ken) Wild; his son, Mitch (Susan) Redell; grandchildren, Sheldon, Shawn, Jesse, Devon, Jaclyn, Ryder, and Marley; great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Arlene) Redell; his very special friends, Wayne and Norma Nelson; as well as many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Ritchie; and his brother, Robert. A private burial service was held. I remember spending summers with him and Janet and Michelle when I was in middle school, High school age , boating and spending time at the cabin, I also remember a Christmas vacation with him when I went with them to Michigan snowmobiling and I had just gotten my braces tightened before I left for the trip and the dentist didn't cut the wire off in the back of my mouth so it was cutting my mouth up and he got out a wire cutter and got it out for me , I also crashed into Michelle with the snowmobile because I didn't see her over the hill,. LOL
He was like an Uncle to me, he was the nicest person I had ever met , he always made me feel like family and would do anything for you , he will definitely be missed in this world , see you in heaven .

Sadly, our friend and Brother, retired Wisconsin Operating Engineers Local 139 Ray Redell, 81, passed away last weekend and our hearts and prayers go out to his family. Ray lived a full and active life and was a proud lifetime member of Local 139. We will miss him and we thank his family for graciously designating all donations go to Local 139 Scholarship Committee. By passing it forward, they will be helping the families of the next generation of operating engineers. The name and memory of Ray Redell will be a part of next years scholarship ceremony.

I remember Ray as the best popcorn popper ever. It was so much fun playing pegs and jokers and taking time out out for hot buttered popcorn courtesy of Ray. Sorry for your loss Janet , my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

A husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Ray was a special friend to Susan and me. He mentored us through many projects in Chetek. He was always able to figure out a problem , given time, no matter how big or how small. I will always remember his two favorite sayings he would utter while working together: “we are really making bag now” and “lets get it done because we aren’t taking it to the fair”. Everyone became a friend to Ray as he would engage strangers in conversations that could last a while. Anyone who would paint there tools yellow certainly had a love for the Green Bay Packers.
To (Sis) Janet and Family we are so sorry for your loss but Ray will always be a part of our lives and memories. I am sure he will be meeting many new friends and renewing old friendships in heaven.
