I've known Bill since his early days in Madison and have worked with him and the Cost Cutters crew through the years to promote his salons . I had the pleasure to nominate him for a senior service award at Downtown Rotary two years ago. He was honored for his philanthrophy with prominent business leaders of Madison in attendance. I emphasized his work with Agrace HospiceCare and establishing a two-chair beauty salon at the Agrace patient residence in Fitchburg. Bill did this in memory of his late sister, Lillian, who died of cancer, too young. Bill took care of her and arranged hospice care for her. In honor and memory of her, the salon offers a place for terminally ill patients to have their hair cut and styled--a positive perk, for sure! Bill's employees--Cost Cutter stylists- donate their time on Thursdays to provide complimentary hair services to the patients. It is a win-win for everyone, including the families who visit their loved ones at the salon. Cost Cutters celebrated 10 years of offering this service last year and Bill was all smiles at the Agrace Hospicecare luncheon honoring the salon services and stylists. Bill credited his Cost Cutter stylist volunteers for making it happen each week. His good works will continue....

Bill and I have been friends since he moved to Madison. We shared many experiences, personally and professionally. His generosity was unmatched and his willingness to help others was a constant. I especially saw this first hand with my students in the barber/cosmetology program. Over my 45 years of teaching the program I made several requests of Bill and his company. He never hesitated to fulfill those requests. When jobs were scarce, Bill shared with me that "if a student could not find employment " to give him a call and he would offer employment to that individual. He would always tell me that offer was for me too! He made sure that the students were invited to "Super Sunday" and treated them to classes an lunch at no cost! I could share many more examples of Bill's generosity, but he would not want me to do so. He always commented on my appearance and always called me "Johnny". I will always cherish that. He always wanted everyone to be successful and would do whatever he could to help with that objective. Thanks Friend, for everything! My condolences to his Family and Friends. May God grant him eternal rest.
