Obituary
MOUNT HOREB-Susan A. (Masche) O’Rourke, age 70, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018, at UW Hospital surrounded by family. She was born on Aug. 1, 1948, in Beaver Dam, the daughter of Edward and Vitalis Masche. Susan had a highly successful career as an office manager for Educause where she was able to display her wonderful knack for organizing. She truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; spending time with family, chatting with friends, and going on adventures with her friend, Gail. Susan’s talents were many; she was an avid reader, she loved to dance, she was an accomplished seamstress and she had an uncanny ability to connect with anyone. She was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She will be deeply missed. Susan is survived by her three children, Jason Newel, Ernest Newel and Rebecca (Newel) Kozuszek.

When I think of Susan, I will always think of what a wonderful mother and grandmother she was. She truly was the "heart" of her family. Josey and Adeline spoke all the time about Grandma Susan and times they spent with her. I am grateful that they were blessed with getting to know her and love her and feel the security of her love. Our deepest sympathies go out to all of her family. Sincerely, Mike and Judy Opsal

News found its way to me in Boulder along with gray, ominous clouds. Then as I scrolled through the symbols, I immediately chose sunshine. Susan always welcomed me to the EDUCAUSE DC office with a smile, a hug and a moment of warm conversation. She was never too busy to overlook the small acts of kindness and warmth that took the edge off of travel. She literally made everyone feel at home. I suspect that was true wherever Susan was. I will miss you Susan. Thanks Susan, for bringing your sunshine into my and so many others’ lives.

I met Susan 18 years ago when I was hired by EDUCAUSE. She was a genuinely kind and generous friend, manager, and colleague who always looked out for you. I loved her sense of humor. She will be missed. My deepest sympathies to her family and friends. ~Valerie Vogel

I loved working with Susan at EDUCAUSE! She did a great job managing the office - if she arranged something, you knew it had been planned thoroughly and thoughtfully. And she was so fun! I remember hanging out with her after work or going to lunch and just laughing and laughing over anything and everything. She had such a lovely soul. My condolences to all her friends and family missing her now.

We had so much fun during our years at Columbus High School, my demonstration speech for Mr Zahn's speech class involved "teasing" your hair in to a giant bouffant style so"IN" in 1965 ! Your demonstration was performing the various dance styles ie. the Twist, Mashed Potatoes, the Jerk, the Swim and the Gorilla. We did LOVE to dance. We were at a dance at the Columbus Park Pavilion when I met my future husband George. After graduation we shared a studio apartment above Redwood & Ross on State St in Madison and since neither of us had a driver's license we walked to our respective jobs on the Square. I still have the set of "fine china" you bought for me using your Montgomery Ward's employee discount when I got engaged. We also still have the musical stein and the musical cuckoo clock you sent us from Germany for our wedding. Even though we had lost contact over the years I always think of as my BFF.
Deepest Sympathy to your family
Love
