Obituary

VERONA — Charles Bruce "Chuck" Thornley, age 95, of Verona, died on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019, at Badger Prairie Health Care Center. He was born to Cecil Shuck and Mary Dorsey on Sept. 16, 1923, in New Albany, Ind., and was adopted by his mother’s second husband, Clarence Thornley. Chuck attended Purdue University, where he excelled at track and was a Delta Upsilon brother, before joining the U.S. Navy during World War II. He and Arlene Ann McHale married on June 3, 1944, in Jacksonville, Fla., and celebrated 72 years together before her passing in 2016. He graduated from the University of Indiana. He and Ann were longtime members of St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Church in Palatine, Ill. Chuck was known for being generous, inquisitive, and creative. He could always be called upon to share his culinary or carpentry skills. His family was among his greatest joys, and he sought to deepen his faith through study, prayer, and sharing. He never failed to have a pun or joke on the tip of his tongue.
