Obituary
MADISON / MIDDLETON - Ramona Jean Clift, age 98, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, Wis.
I was born on Jan. 17, 1924, to Abner and Zelpha Gochenaur, on their farm in the Township of Forest, near Viola, Wis. I always had fond memories of my childhood and my family, which included siblings, Perlie, Beryl "Shorty", Eva, Veron, Garland, Truman, Glee, Burdell, Arleus, Lorraine and Marcel "Bill", of which I was the last survivor. I graduated from Viola High School in 1941 and attended Madison Business College. I married Richard Clift in Richland Center on Feb. 2, 1943. We spent the next few years living and traveling in North Carolina, Virginia and Washington, D.C, where I worked for the Selective Service and Internal Revenue Service as Richard served in the U.S. Army.
In 1948, we settled in the Carpenter-Ridgeway neighborhood on the east side of Madison, where we stayed for more than 60 years. Richard and I had two daughters, Catherine (Arthur) Bostwick of Saukville, Wis., and Mary (Peter) Hans of Shorewood Hills, Wis. Alongside caring for them, I worked for the State Medical Society and Manchester's Department Store. I stayed busy as an active member of the First United Methodist Church. I enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, and working on sewing projects.
Over the years, my family grew to include very special grandchildren - Beth and Ryan Hurtado and Laura and Joel Hans - and five beloved great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Jackson and Colin Hurtado, and Mabel and Ida Hans. I loved my family dearly, making myself available if they needed help. A favorite sewing project was making stuffed bears that now belong to my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dick and I were married for 71 years when he passed away. We shared this wonderful life. have missed him and hope we might be reunited.

Services will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 24, 2022. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
