MIDDLETON - Helen L. Oostdik, age 92, of Middleton, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020, at Brookdale-Middleton on Century Avenue. She was born on Sept. 1, 1928, in Blanchardville, the daughter of William and Frieda (Wirth) Groth. Helen graduated from Middleton High School in 1947. She married Marinus J. "Budge" Oostdik on Aug. 20, 1947, and he preceded her in death on June 30, 2004.
Helen was an avid reader and gardener. A day outside tending her flowers, a cup of coffee, something sweet and a mystery story was a good day. She had a great sense of humor and a mischievous smile (especially when enduring the jokes of her beloved husband.) She was a good cook, baker and enjoyed sewing, knitting and decorating her home. Most of all, Helen was devoted to her family and friends. She was a woman of great faith and a lifelong member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
Helen is survived by a daughter, Maureen Oostdik of Madison; son, Steve (Hope) Oostdik of Lake Mills; brother, Edward (Anita) Groth of Atwater, Calif.; grandson, Peter (Emily) Greenquist; granddaughters, Carrie (Matt) Greenquist-Petersen, Rachel Renner and Christina Marshall; great-grandchildren, Ellie Petersen, Louie and Arlo Marshall and Grace Renner; as well as nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers, William, Ronald, Kenneth and Harry Groth.
Helen was never comfortable in the spotlight but always the force behind helping others to shine. She was loyal and generous to a fault, loving family and friends unconditionally. Though little, she was fierce and faithfully provided the “wind beneath our wings.”
A private memorial service will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens with the Rev. Timothy Maybee presiding. Friends and family who wish to view services via LIVE STREAM may visit Helen's obituary page at www.gundersonfh.com and click on the Live Webcast link.
Memorials may be made to Middleton Outreach Ministry. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Condolences to the Oosdik Family from mine on the passing of another quite memorable Cooper Avenue family member. Helen, Budge & Fam were a big part of our neighborhood back in the '60's & '70's. Quite fittingly, Helen's final "home" is where my parents, Pat & Leo, RIP. Dan Simms, Waunakee

The tulips remind me of your mom's garden behind your house in Middleton, that you could see from the road crossing over the railroad tracks.

My condolences to all of the family. I enjoyed so many extended family gatherings that centered around Helen. Thanksgiving will never be the same without Helen’s pies. I know the last few weeks have been hard, especially for Maureen. With warm regards to all. Aunt Jean

I greatly admire Helen and the love she shared with her husband, Budge. Helen had a hardworking, sensible, quick-wit soul who found solutions in a wonderfully sassy diligence, delicious meals, and a great care for those she loved. She smartly chose a humorous, industrious Budge to be her life partner and they beautifully balanced each other. I believe these soulmates are now back together and I continue to learn through their memory. From: Emily Greenquist (wife of grandson, Pete)
