Obituary

MADISON - Aaron Michael Underwood became one of our Heavenly Father’s special angels and was made whole on July 12, 2025.  Freed from his profound neurological impairment and complex and challenging medical issues, Aaron can now dance in the halls of Heaven.  Each day in his earthly body since his unexpected early arrival on December 14, 1979, was truly a blessing from God.

Home for Aaron was Central Wisconsin Center for the Developmentally Disabled in Madison since 1983.  Words cannot adequately express our deep gratitude for the compassionate and loving care provided by an army of caregivers through the years.  Each and every curveball and challenge Aaron tossed out, and there were many, Central Center’s staff of physicians, nursing, therapists, and countless other disciplines, met head on and solved together.  Aaron would not have survived and thrived all these years without his CWC army.

Without ever uttering a word, Aaron taught many through the years about how best to provide humane, comprehensive and synchronized care for those with the most profound levels of intellectual and physical disabilities.

Because of Aaron, his parents became quick learners in the world of advocacy, and banded with families across the country advocating to maintain the option of facility based care for those persons with profound intellectual and other developmental disabilities benefiting from the highest level of care.

Aaron waits to be reunited with his loving parents, Kevin and Rebecca Underwood; sister, Rachel; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and family friends.  Aaron was welcomed into Heaven by his grandparents who loved him dearly.

Private graveside services with burial will be held on Thursday, July 17. Memorial service and celebration of life will take place at a future date at Central Wisconsin Center.

What a beautiful tribute. Thank you for letting CWC take care of Aaron. I work at CWC. I loved talking with Aaron. Like you said he is dancing. Seeing how beautiful Heaven is. Connie

Aaron was the main reason I stayed at CWC and continue to stay. I questioned whether or not CWC was a good fit for me. One day when I was just beginning my journey at CWC, while caring for Aaron I began to sing along to the song on the radio. (Singing is my thing) I looked over at Aaron to sing to him and he had this ear to ear grin on his face. Eyes wide open of the brightest blue. That's when I realized he loved music and responded to it. What I loved to do is what he responded to. It made my heart melt. To the one that helped me find my passion in life, you will be deeply missed and always loved. Jessi

I was Aaron's Recreational Therapist starting in July 2007 for 8 1/2 years. Even after I moved to another unit at CWC, I would still occasionally get to see him in passing, at special events, or at the family picnic with his family. I would always stop to say hi and would hope to see his amazing smile. He really was a special man who would brighten my day with a head turn and smile. My thoughts and prayers to Rebecca, Kevin, Rachel, and all who knew and loved him. May you find peace and comfort in the memories of the wonderful life he lived. Kristie

To love and care for such a fragile person for many years, and then they are gone, is worse than heartbreaking. Aaron's life was a blessing, and his family was given the rare privilege to walk alongside him on this side of heaven. To be taught how to truly give and receive unconditional love by your special needs child or sibling is one of life's greatest gifts. Till we all meet up yonder. 💔

Rebecca and Kevin, words cannot express my sympathy having heard of Aaron's passing. He was truly blessed to have you as parents, Rachel and the rest of your supportive family, along with his CWC family. His smile will surely shine down on all of you as you move forward without his physical presence.
