Obituary
MOUNT HOREB - Pearl V. Vierima died on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020, at BeeHive Homes. She was born on Jan. 8, 1923, in Gary, Minn., to the Rev. and Mrs. Joseph S. Halvorson (Nettie Johnson). Pearl was the youngest of ten children. She married William Jan Vierima, who died in 1985. Pearl is survived by daughter, Teri Vierima (David Hoffman) of Mount Horeb; son, Scott W. Vierima (Carol); and grandson, Christopher C. Vierima (partner, Melissa LeDoux) of Florida. She is also survived by a sister, Ida Nordvall of Thief River Falls, Minn.
Pearl lived in Mount Horeb since 1993. Her greatest joys were her family, her faith, and the natural world around her. She was an active member of Mount Horeb Evangelical Lutheran Church and of the Mound Vue Garden Club. Pearl was well known for her beautiful garden on the corner of Forest and N. Second St., as well as her readiness to share starts of her plants. She loved being up in the air and had gone parachuting, hang gliding, and parasailing, and had been up in hot air balloons and helicopters. She wished to come back as a hummingbird and had one tattooed on her back. Please put up a hummingbird feeder in memory of Pearl.
At Pearl's request, no funeral services will be held. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Mound Vue Garden Club, Mount Horeb Area Historical Society, or Mount Horeb Public Library. Her family is extremely grateful to the staff of BeeHive Homes and Agrace HospiceCare for their loving care of Pearl in her last year, and to all of Pearl’s friends who loved her until the end. Online condolences may be left at www.gundersonfh.com.

Pearl was just a beautiful soul. I saw her in church every Sunday morning, until she could no longer attend services. She always had a smile and a hug, and a kind word, and never hesitated saying "I love you". She will be dearly missed.

Of the many gifts mom gave to her children, I am most grateful for; the knowledge of right from wrong, the strength to persevere in the face of hardship, the optimism to embrace the future with hope, a forgiving and charitable nature, an open and inquiring mind, and the character to treat others with kindness and respect ... regardless of their station in life.
I will not soon forget her or the lessons she taught by the example she set.
