Obituary

MOUNT HOREB - Danielle Suzanne “Dani Sue” Schroeder, age 88, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Beehive. She was born on September 12, 1938, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Harry Flom and Alice Anderson.

In addition to raising her family, Dani Sue worked as a CNA for Badger Prairie Health Care prior to retirement. She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELCA). She volunteered for seven years after retiring for the church readers program. She was also part of the care team ministry Evangelical Lutheran Church.

In her free time, Dani Sue enjoyed crypto quotes, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles and arts and crafts, and she loved to travel! Family was everything to her. She always looked forward to the holidays when everyone got together.

Danielle is survived by her sons, Lee (Patricia) Hustad, Daniel (Kari) Hustad and Neil (Patricia Ennis) Ruef; daughters, Jill Ruef and Joy (Evan) Mercier; brother, David Flom; grandsons, Matthew (Nely) Hustad, Sean (Rachel) Mericer and Keifer Topper; granddaughter, Katie (Kevin) Mater; great-grandchildren, Natalia and Max Hustad, and Hannah and Hendrix Mater; and nieces, Sandy Flom and Cindy Jackson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth "Kenny" Schroeder; sister, Temple Flom; sister-in-law, Patricia Flom; and nephew, Randy Flom.

A graveside service will be held at UNION CEMETERY, Mount Horeb, at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, with Pastor Karen Hofstad presiding.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff at the Beehive for their wonderful care and compassion that they gave to Dani Sue and her family during this difficult time.

I’m sending my deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers to Dani’s family and friends. I had the honor and privilege to care for Dani at Bee Hive. I always enjoyed spending time with her whenever I had time. We really got to know each other and we had many conversations about our families and life. We shared many hugs, smiles, laughter and a few tears together. I will miss her…. her courage, determination, strength, kindness and friendship. Dani had a beautiful heart and soul. Rest in peace my friend.

My condolences to Dani’s family. Dani befriended my aunt Alice when they both lived at Rosewood Villas. Dani reached out to Alice and was so kind and thoughtful. They kind of lost touch when Dani moved to Mount Horeb and Alice’s memory issues worsened. But after being notified of Alice’s change of address, Dani wrote the sweetest note to Alice reminiscing about their days watching “Wheel of Fortune” together and hanging out in her apartment. This note meant so much to Alice. She knew Dani was her friend and really was touched by the kind sentiment in the note. Rest in peace Dani.
