Obituary

BLACK EARTH - Lurlene June Schultz, age 96, of Black Earth, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at VitaCare Living of Mount Horeb. She was born on June 13, 1929, in Berry Township, the daughter of Emil and Lavona (Harmening) Kahl.


Lurlene graduated from Black Earth High School in 1947. On April 7, 1948, she was united in marriage to Raphael “Eugene” Schultz in Cross Plains. Together, they were blessed with five children.


For 25 years, Lurlene shared her love of music as the organist at St. Barnabas Catholic Church. She also taught piano and guitar to many local children. She was a talented seamstress and lovingly made clothes for her children when they were young. Lurlene cherished her walks around Black Earth, where she was a familiar and friendly face in the community.


Lurlene is survived by her daughters, Jacqueline (Jerry) Wendt, Donna (Tom) Niesen, Nancy (Shannon) Wilmot and Rita (Walt) Miller; son, David Schultz Sr.; grandchildren, Adam (Shannon) Stein, Shannon (Paul) Rogers, Travis Stein (Ashley), Craig (Nicole) Niesen, Kevin (Paula) Niesen, David (Kelly) Schultz Jr., and Caprice George (Cody); great-grandchildren, Ryan Stein, Savannah Martin, Dylan, Samara, Sutton and Colton Stein, Carter, Maxwell, Teigan and Callan Niesen, Kyle Schultz, Cheyenne and Griffin George; and great-great grandchildren, Carter and Noah Stein.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; sister, Geraldine Schumann; brothers, Oliver Kahl and Verlyn Kahl; brother-in-law, LaVern Schumann; and sisters-in-law, Frances Kahl and Evelyn Kahl.


A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON CAMACHO BLACK EARTH FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1710 Center St., Black Earth, at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025. Burial will take place at St. Barnabas Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.

I took guitar lessons from Mrs. Schultz for several years. She was so nice and always encouraging, especially when I was struggling with some technique or music. And she had nice treats at Christmas, too! My condolences to Rita, who I knew from school, and the entire Schultz family.
