Barbara Ann Endres

MOUNT HOREB - Barbara Ann (Statz) Endres, age 92, completed her final journey on this earth on Friday, August 14, 2026, at All Saints Community Living in Madison.

Barb was born in Waunakee on March 10, 1934, the oldest of 14 children of Albert and Elizabeth (Corcoran) Statz. Barb attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic School. After graduating from eighth grade, Barb attended one year of high school but then chose to work in order to help her parents. She never returned to school.

In 1949, on a Sunday afternoon, she rode her bicycle to a Home Talent baseball game in Cross Plains. It was at this game that she met a young man from Waunakee named Matt Endres. He asked her if he could take her out and she said "yes." On October 21, 1952, they were married in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. They began their married life on the Endres homestead on Woodland Drive near Waunakee.

In 1961, the Endres farm was sold, and Matt and Barb moved the family to a farm near Blue Mounds where they farmed until 1977, when they bought a house in Mount Horeb. Barb took a job cooking at Schubert's Restaurant and Matt started baking there. One by one, their children married and left home and soon they were "empty nesters." Barb started cooking at Ingleside Nursing Home in 1986 and worked there for 15 years.

In 1999, Matt was diagnosed with lung cancer and died 17 days later. He and Barb had been married for 46 years.

Barb retired from Ingleside in 2000. Since then, she has had some part-time jobs and did some volunteer work at the senior center, church, and the multicultural center. Barb was a faithful and proud blood donor and had donated 12 gallons of blood to the Red Cross.

Barb always looked forward to family get togethers. Her favorite was Mother's Day when every year she would host an "Open House" starting at 6:00 a.m. with fresh coffee and donuts and it would go on all day. Also, Christmas was never forgotten.

One of Barb's favorite pastimes was listening to polka music while rolling out pie crust. She will always be remembered for her rhubarb pies and her dill pickles, as well as her warm smile and her genuine friendliness.

Barb was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church and its CCW in Mount Horeb. She was thankful to God for many things in her life; her parents, her brothers, and her sister, for her husband and her children, but most of all, for her love of God and his church. She always considered herself a very rich woman because of all the things God gave her in her life.

Barb is survived by her 11 children, Audrey Rue of Blue Mounds, Laura (Paul) Mieden of Barneveld, Donna Becker (Lonnie Schmid) of Monticello, Mary Ryan (Steve Eckstein) of Mount Horeb, Tony "Farmer" (Wendi) Endres of Verona, Lynn (Tom) Duerst of Westby, Gary "Hunts" Endres of Monticello, Julie (Manard) Schmitz of Mount Horeb, John Endres of Blanchardville, Dale (Kari) Endres of Plainfield, Ill., and Joe (Becky) Endres of Newark, Ill.

She is further survived by 32 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and six step-great-great-grandchildren.

Barb is also survived by her eight siblings, Ray (Harriet) Statz of Waunakee, Ken Statz of Alma Center, Joe (Kay) Statz of Waunakee, Michael (Gale) Statz of Mineral Point, Maryellen MacLucas of California, Elmer (Lisa) Statz of Ashton, Gregg Statz of Nevada and Mark (Wendy) Statz of Fort Atkinson; in-laws, Vera Statz of Waunakee and Dorothy Voegli of Waunakee; cousins and countless nieces and nephews.

Barb was preceded in death by her husband, Matt; her parents, Albert and Betty Statz; a son-in-law, Jim Rue; five brothers, Harold, Donny, Richard, Marvin and Paul Statz; Statz in-laws, Helen Statz, Joanie Statz, Alice Statz, Arlene Statz and Monica (Melvin) Herring; and Endres in-laws, Joe and Cyrilla Dahmen, George and Rutilla Paar, Sr. Yvonne Endres, Sr. Marie Endres, Sr. Rebecca Endres, Leo and Marie Endres, Linus and Delores Ganser, Al and Sally Endres, Ed and Lilly Acker, Oscar and Monica Statz, and John Endres.

We thank All Saints Community Living for the wonderful care they gave to Mom. She loved living there and she loved all of you!! We also thank Agrace Hospice for their care of Mom, especially Toni and Gabbi. You made Mom's final journey so special and we are so grateful to all of you!

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. IGNATIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 109 S. Sixth St., Mount Horeb, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, with Father Brian Dulli presiding. Following Mass, burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Mount Horeb, followed by a luncheon at the church. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON CAMACHO MOUNT HOREB FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 500 N. Eighth St., Mount Horeb, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m., with a Rosary Service immediately following, on Friday, August 21, 2026, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand and a beer in the other hand, body thoroughly used up totally worn out and screaming "Whoo-Hoo What A Ride!!"
