Obituary

MIDDLETON - Helen Catherine Gilles, age 94, of Middleton, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Middleton Crossing. She was born on August 31, 1931, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Francis and Catherine (Spahn) Acker. She married Alfred J. Gilles on March 27, 1951.


Helen is survived by her sons, Roger F. Gilles, Donald Gilles, Mark Gilles and Paul Gilles; daughters, Jacqueline Duros, Denise Steinhauer, Lex ann Thomas and Michelle Sharer; sister, Jeanette Kurt; sisters-in-law, Pat Acker and Mabel Gilles; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Alfred.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2015 Parmenter St., Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026. Private burial will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens.

I met Helen when I helped with the funeral.lunches at St. Bernard's. We became friends & shared many Saturday nights at Culver's after mass. I know she is at peace now.
