Obituary

FITCHBURG-David R. Deering, age 67, of Fitchburg, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018, at home. He was born on Oct. 24, 1950, in Madison, the son of Robert and Mary Jean (Cook) Deering. David graduated from the UW-Madison. He had a love of life and a larger than life personality. David had a passion for morel hunting and fishing, his favorite story involved catching a 47" musky.  He was a great story teller and enjoyed reminiscing about the good times. David was an avid Badgers and Packers fan. He was a skilled painter and enjoyed food, wine and good music.  David was a wine collector and connoisseur who loved his multiple trips to France.  He was a history buff, worked trivia in to the family dinners and was a self-taught chef, cooking for his friends and family. David is survived by his father, Robert; daughter, Lara Colleen (Andy) Kleinheinz; two sons, Michael (Chelsea Draper) Deering and Eric (Tori) Deering; former wife, Gael Kelly-Deering; brother, James (Teresa) Deering; sister, Christine (Thayne "Butch" ) Olson; two grandchildren, Gavin Kleinheinz and Kendall Kleinheinz; and many nieces, nephews (niblings) and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jean Deering. A memorial gathering will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Rd., Fitchburg, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 27, 2018. David was one of my best friends. We studied wine together and many other things.

Bob and family, I am so sorry to hear of David's passing. I had many conversations with him about France and wine. We both loved the "minerality" of the white wines from the Alsace region. My sincere condolences. Joann Stanton
