Obituary

MADISON - Joan Yvonne Schwenn, age 90, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024, at Heritage Monona. She was born on May 17, 1934, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Harry and Norma (Kent) LaMay.


Joan grew up and attended school in Madison.  She was married to Wendel Lee for 22 years.  After Wendel’s death, Joan was married to Ray Schwenn for 37 years.  Prior to retirement, Joan worked as a cashier at Kohl's Grocery Store. She was known for her great sense of humor, and in her free time she enjoyed playing cards and going to the casino. Joan was a person who truly treasured her family and who always appreciated the love and support they showed her throughout her life.


Joan is survived by her daughter, Susan L. Miller; grandson, Jamie Lee; great-grandchildren, Veda Lee and Jasper Lee; sister, Betty (Bill) Sime; brother, Harry LaMay; nephews, Brian Sime, Jeffrey (Cindy) LaMay and Bill (Maria) LaMay; nieces, Lisa (John) Schroeder, Cindy (Gerhardt) Banfi and Tammy (John) White; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Wendel Lee and Ray Schwenn; sister, Nancy LaMay; and sister-in-law, Barbara LaMay.


A memorial service will be held at MIDVALE COMMUNITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4329 Tokay Blvd., Madison, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024, with the Rev. Blake Rohrer presiding.

I have known Joan for quite a few years and have nice memories of time spent with her. She is the great grandmother to my grandchildren {Veda and Jasper} and always a very loving and caring Grandma. Love the picture of her, just like she always looked! Susan Volker
