Obituary
MONROE- Sherri L. Barsness passed away on Monday, Aug. 6, 2018, after a lengthy struggle with cancer. She was born on Oct. 23, 1963, in Burlingame, Califonia to William and Linda Grandstaff. In 1969, her mother moved her to Alaska. While in Alaska she met her husband, David Barsness, a native of Wisconsin. In addition to enjoying the Alaskan outdoors, their hobbies included breeding German Shepherds and raising game pheasants and pigs. They owned and operated a restaurant in Wasilla, Alaska until they relocated to Wisconsin in 1995. Sherri was a devoted wife, mother and friend. She loved to cook and bake and was a voracious reader of suspense novels. Sherri also appreciated a good glass of Pinot Noir. Sherri is survived by her husband of 26 years, David Barsness; son, Kyle Morawitz of West Virginia; sister, Bridget Boehm-Keller of Florida; step-son, Steven Barsness; step daughter, Wendy (Chad) Biederman of Wisconsin; and step-grandchildren, Devon and Emma of Iowa. She was preceded in death by her brother, Kirk Grandstaff of Minnesota. Sherri maintained an unwavering strength and positive attitude throughout her life and illness and always had a smile for others. Private services will be held for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to David Barsness in care of Gunderson Funeral Home.

It is with great sadness that I learn of Sherri's passing. She was such a good friend to me during her tenure at DRS. I will remember her for her bubbly self and her positive outlook on life no matter what was thrown at her. She was a true warrior. Know that you are not alone and take comfort in knowing that Sherri is no longer suffering. May God be with you during this difficult time.

Dear Dave and Kyle,
So very sorry for your profound loss. Sherri was such an upbeat soul! Even after she got the diagnosis, she was her same smiling, laughing self. (And her great laugh! Always brought a smile to my face.) She was not one just to leave the office at the end of the day. She made a habit of popping her head into my office, if only to say "Bye! Have a nice evening." We'd usually end up jawing for a minute or two about whatever was the goofy story of the day. She was fiercely proud of both of you and spoke lovingly about your ups and downs. "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." Godspeed. Joe

I offer my deepest condolences to the Barsness family on the passing of your loved one. Throughout this pain, Jehovah God understands your loss. Isaiah 25:8 says that “He will swallow up death forever, And the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces”.
Until those promises are fulfilled, I pray that this scripture brings a measure of comfort to the family during their time of bereavement.
