MADISON- Alice J. (Vickerman) Wampole, age 64, passed away on Friday December 28th, 2018. She was born on May 16th, 1954 in Madison, the daughter of Gerald “Tony” and Betty (Hodgson) Vickerman. Alice graduated from East High School in 1972 and from nursing school in 1977. Alice married her husband Doug Wampole on August 19th, 1978; they were married for 40 years. Alice enjoyed spending time with family, friends and her three grandchildren. Alice took pride in both of her children’s extracurricular activities; she was an enthusiastic Girl Scout Leader and the loudest cheering fan. She attended many La Follette sporting events to support all the student athletes and sling hotdogs for the Booster Club. Alice was a talented quilter and seamstress. She would spread her love and joy by sharing her creations with loved ones. More recently Alice shared her gift of giving at local elementary schools, sewing hats for the young children. Alice looked forward to traveling with friends and family. Her most memorable trip occurred in New Zealand and Australia with Doug. Alice worked as an operating room nurse and nurse educator for 41 years at Meriter Hospital in Madison, WI. Through her work as a nurse, she provided compassionate care and ensured that each patient received the best care. She was described by many as a loyal friend, mentor and wonderful caregiver. One of her proudest achievements was earning her Masters of Science in Nursing in 2016. Alice loved bowling, softball, hiking, biking, camping and attending shows at the Overture Center. She was an active member of the Madison-Monona Lioness Club. An avid Badger, Packer and Brewer fan, she looked forward to Badger Saturdays, Packer Sundays and Wednesday Brewer games. Alice is survived by her husband, Doug; daughter, Sarah (Shawn) Wampole-Maciejeski; son, Tony (Danielle) Wampole; Three grandchildren, Shawna Maciejeski, Emmett and Graham Wampole; half sister, Shirley Spaith; along with many family members and friends. I am a friend from 7th grade on. Alice and I were ‘Monkee’ crazy. My favorite memories of Alice always include laughter. Our friendship was genuine and wholesome and reconnecting with her a few years ago during class reunion planning was so fun. Great to hear about her life and family. She was a great friend that I’ll treasure always. Peace to you now Alice. We will meet again someday. Linda Sliter Fredrick.

Alice was brilliant, kind, competent, skillful and resourceful. She taught me a lot about working with Epic. I’ll never forget her significant contributions to patient care and to her colleagues including many doctors. She left us too early but she is in a better place now.

Alice, you left us way too soon, but you will be with us in heart and spirit forever. You touched so many lives-such a beautiful person inside and out. I will cherish all the memories we shared with our kids, Sarah & Steph and Tony & Jimmy, they brought us together and I'm so grateful for that. Rest in peace Alice, I will miss you. Doug, Sarah, and Tony, I am so sorry for your loss, please call if you need anything.
