MADISON- Roger P. Hauck of Madison, passed away on July 8, 2018, at the age of 81. He was born on Aug. 30, 1936 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Bernard and Florence Hauck. He married Ann Echols Wigdale on Aug. 31, 1968, in Milwaukee. Roger was a devoted husband and loving father. Roger graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and from Harvard Business School with a Masters in Business. He spent the majority of his career working for Marshall Erdman until 1994, and continued to serve on the boards of several local companies and non-profits. He enjoyed skiing with family and friends throughout his life, as well as fishing trips in northern Wisconsin. Roger is survived by his wife, Ann; his two sons, Roger D. (Kelly) and Bill (Maggie); three grandchildren, Isabel, Grace and Lily; and his brother, Karl. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Dick Hauck. A Memorial Service will be held at HOLY WISDOM MONASTERY, 4200 County Road M, Middleton, at 1 p.m., on Friday, July 13, 2018, with a time for visiting to follow the service. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Roger may be made to the Benedictine Life Foundation of Wisconsin, 4200 County Rd. M, Middleton, WI 53562. Early in Rogers’s career at Marshall Erdman & Associates I remember that he “campaigned” a sailboat in Mendota Yacht club races. It was called an e-scow. He was short a crew member for a race one Saturday and I was recruited. Knowing nothing about sailing, he talked me into getting out of the boat and standing on something called a bilge board. I thought at the time I was a pretty rational person and that if this guy could talk me into standing on a thin piece of metal while sailing over water, what else was he capable of. Eventualy he became my boss, or at least I let him think he was. He was a great mentor and a true friend. I will miss him as will many others. Sail on Roger. Steve Mason

Many, many years ago Roger came to see me for some physical therapy exercises for his back. I have long since retired, but occasionally would see Roger at the fitness center where we both belonged. Every time our paths crossed, he would thank me for helping him get over his bout of back pain. His sincere gratitude touched my heart. What a kind gentleman... He will be dearly missed...

In short, I owe Roger for everything I have and what I became. In 1982 he interviewed me for a Head of Construction role. After a full day, he told me that construction would not work, but what about sales. I leapt at it and it was the best thing professionally that happened to me ever. Roger always had an open ear to hear whatever I thought important. He was a great mentor and leader. Once he retired from Erdman, I knew that I would be close behind as there was no one there I wanted to work for. Once you have the best anything else just does not cut it. We have kept in touch over the years and his council was always available and appreciated. I guess what I remember most was his sense of humor and incredibly quick mind. When you talked to him you needed to be on your A game and it was wonderful. Roger was a great man and friend, and I will miss hearing from him. The world and Madison was better off with him in it. Where ever you are Roger, don't drop that corked "bomber" bottle of Becks off the chair lift. Thanks for everything. Tom Berry

What an unfortunate loss for our community. I had the privilege to work with Roger as a fellow board member of Friends of Wisconsin Public Television. Roger always brought such thoughtful insights to each meeting, helping to guide discussion to the areas that really mattered. He had a wonderful passion for the work of the organization an and in making our communities better fro everyone. He will certainly be missed by many.

I am Dean F Echols and I recently moved to 30 Cielo Drive, Dover,NH 03820, dfecholsmd@gmail.com, cellphone (603)369-7577. Ann Echols Wigdale Hauck is my favorite first cousin and after she developed TMDementia, I kept in touch with her through Roger until his death. Our shared uncle, EmmetEchols developed FTD and died in 9 years about age 90. He was my dad’s and her mother’s brother. I developed FTD in 2000 , diagnosed in 2008 and I’m still functioning in 2021, but Ann deteriorated quickly in 3 years loosing facial recognition. I was trying to stay in touch with Ann’s progression as this illness is genetic, though no other family members have it and some don’t want to know. I briefly met Ann’s sons in my driving through Madison in about 1993. When l returned from Vietnam as a combat surgeon, I visited Ann’s mother and tried to see Bill but he was not seeing visitors. I am hoping someone will respond to my message. I do not know any other way to reach Ann or sons. There are many nursing homes in Madison and they would not divulge her information. My condolences to Rogers family. My last call to him was brief and he was frustrated because someone was at the front door so we said quick goodbyes.
