Obituary

MADISON- Diane Marie Wright, age 67, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday June 7th, 2018 at HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center in Arizona. Faced with a diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer in 2016, Diane turned to integrative treatment for the restoration of health. She overcame many odds while maintaining a high quality of life throughout her journey. Her determination to live, her love for her family, her faith in God, and the love, support, and prayers from Diane’s Village carried her through the past two years.  Diane was born to Dolores and John Schuepbach on November 30th, 1950, in Madison. She was the second oldest of 4 children, John, Denise and Timothy. She graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1969. Soon after, she met her soulmate, Robert (Bob) Wright. The couple married on December 21st, 1974 and have lived together in Madison for the past 48 years, where they raised their daughter, Michelle.  Diane worked for many years at the Dane County Mental Health Center, followed by the University of Wisconsin Hospital, as an administrative assistant, for 15 years. Throughout her working years, she developed many close friendships with co-workers.  Diane was known for her positive attitude, sense of humor, and love of people. She also had a love for animals and adored her dogs through the years, especially her current yellow Labrador, Cody. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family and friends. Her grandchildren Eli (5), Corbin (4), and Harlan (5 mo) were her heart, joy, and pride. She was uniquely known as “Munga”, coined by her oldest Grandchild, Eli. It was a name she embraced and a name that reflected her special bond with her Grandchildren. Diane leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her husband, Robert “Bob” Wright; daughter, Michelle (Adam) Johnson; siblings, John (Patti) Schuepbach, Denise Schuepbach, and Timothy (Diane) Schuepbach; three grandchildren Eli Johnson, Corbin Johnson, and Harlan Johnson; nephews, Jason (Kim) Schuepbach, Johnny Schuepbach, and Jake Schuepbach; and niece, Shelly Schwochert. Diane is preceded in death by her parents, Dolores and John Schuepbach. A celebration of Diane’s life will be held at Noon at DOOR CREEK CHURCH, 6602 Dominion dr., Madison at noon on Thursday June 21, 2018 with Rev. Bob Robinson and Rev. Karen Weidner presiding. Visitation will take place at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr. from 4 PM -7 PM on Wed. June 20, 2018, and at the church from 11:00 AM until time of service on Thursday. Burial will take place at Burke Lutheran Church Cemetery.  The family would like to offer our sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Oertle and staff of Envita Medical Center in Scottsdale, AZ and Dr. Grado and staff of Southwest Oncology in Scottsdale, AZ for their attentive care and dedication to her treatment. Diane was also grateful for the friendship, love, and support provided by all her amazing nurses, especially two closest to her heart: Destinie and Shana. There are many other special people that were brought into, and blessed her life these past two years for whom we are thankful. In memory of Diane, do a loving act of kindness, make someone laugh, help an animal rescue, or provide support to a cancer patient.

Diane, God’s light spilled out as you brightened everyone around you. Your laughter lingers in our hearts’ memories. Hope lives on through your precious daughter and family. They will carry God’s promises to future generations and we will all rejoice together in eternity. We are grateful for Envita too and the opportunity we had to know you. May God’s tender mercies offer peace to your husband and family in the hard days ahead. Until we meet again, sweet friend . . . Your Envita roommates, Kelly & Randi Sue Stewart

I regret that I will not be able to be there with you all this week. Diane was a special "big cousin" to me as a child. She often loomed larger than life to me as a kid as I saw her as strong, self-assured and a fun-loving force of nature not to be ignored. From Diane I learned about following and sharing your passions; be they as a mother, a sister, a partner, a professional or a colleague. She loved fiercely, unconditionally, & fully. She inspired those she loved to do the same. I was blessed to have her in my family and in my life. I will miss you Diane.

Diane and I worked together for many years in the Youth Crisis Unit at the Mental Health Center Of Dane County. As a team, of which Diane was an integral part, we did hard and good work, and Diane often acted as dispatcher for our team, gathering information that was critical for our often making challenging decisions on behalf of children and families. We also enjoyed much laughter in the Youth Crisis Unit, and, again, Diane was a major contributor to our bonding with humor. I wish her a safe passing and much love as she traverses this journey.
