Obituary

MADISON- Ervin R. Noltemeyer, age 93, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 2, 2018. He was born on May 19, 1925, in Morrisonville, to Edward and Leona (Krier) Noltemeyer. After high school, Ervin joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II. There he received a Purple Heart for his courageous service. Ervin married Sylvia Johnson on Dec. 9, 1950, in Dubuque, Iowa. They settled in Madison where he worked for Marling Lumber until his retirement. Ervin loved to golf and would go any chance he got. He was a sports fanatic and was always flipping between golf, baseball, and football on TV (often confusing his dear wife, Sylvia). Ervin was the very definition of a gentleman, always ready to lend a hand with a jacket or opening a door. His grandkids were a true joy for him, he always enjoyed spending time with them. Ervin was loved greatly and will be dearly missed. Ervin is survived by his two children; son, James (late Karen) Nelson and his four children; and his daughter, Mary Kempenaar and her two children, Andy (Hilary) Kempenaar, and Sarah (Keegan) Wedl; along with three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sylvia; two brothers; and three sisters. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, with the Rev. Mark Bartels presiding. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church. A special thank you to the staff at both UW American Center and Marquardt Village in Watertown for their kindness and compassion in caring for Ervin.
