Obituary
Bob Schoville, age 70, of McFarland, died on May 19, 2018, after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his wife and his children at Agrace HospiceCare facility in Fitchburg. Bob was born on September 7, 1947, in Richland Center to Harrison and Portia (Wells) Schoville. A 1969 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, he served as an Infantry Officer with 8 years active duty, including a tour in Vietnam, and retired from the military after an additional 16 years in the National Guard and Reserves. Upon leaving active duty, Bob worked for the Alaska Department of Transportation for a year. He then retired after 23 years working for GTE/Verizon, having lived and worked in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Texas. He enjoyed reading poetry, military history, trout fishing, traveling in Europe, and spending time with his children, eight grandchildren, family and friends. Most of all he cherished the 48 years with the love of his life, Nancy. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Eric (Mandi) Schoville and grandchildren Magnus, Axel, and Esme; son, Kevin (Nicole) Schoville and grandchildren Adelaide and Frederick; daughter Paige (James Dalton) and grandchildren James, Cormac, and Morrison; brothers Bill and Nick; sister Pauline, and many extended family members. A service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at PEOPLE'S UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 103 N Alpine Pkwy, Oregon, at 11 am, Thursday, May 24, 2018 with the Rev. Kate Sweet presiding, with military rites and a luncheon to follow. Visitation will be held from 10 am until the time of the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. The family wishes to thank the staff at the UW Carbone Center and also to Agrace HospiceCare for all of their care and support.

We met Bob and Nancy through our daughters', who have been besties since 5th grade. Bob and Nancy opened their hearts and home to us and our daughter. Bob was a smart, sweet but quiet soul and always smiling. You will be missed Bob and it was always a pleasure to be in the company of you and your amazing family. We love you all!

Bob was was like a second dad to me. He was so kind and gentle and forgiving and he told corny jokes, which I think he loved to get a reaction out of Paige and me. He loved his family so much and I felt included in his love. He is greatly missed, but I know he is with our Father now. I love you Schovilles.

People say you will be remembered not by what you said or did, but by how you made them feel. Bob always made me feel welcome and made a point of confirming I was family to him. He always made his Uncle Gene feel special. He took the time to call his Uncle Gene fairly often, just to shoot the breeze and share family news: who was graduating, who got a job, who was moving or getting married. Dad would happily share all those stories with me when we next spoke. And, Dad loved how easy Bob was to talk to (and not just because he had such a strong , clear voice). Our hearts are broken that this kind, gentle, loving person is gone too soon.

Grandpa was the kindest, most patient person I ever knew, however short my relationship with him was. I'm so upset that he passed while I was so young in life, because I knew that if he saw me now, he would see himself in me and we would have so much to talk about. I miss you so much Grandpa and I love you so much, to the ends of the Earth. I hope I can one day see you again at the Big Rock Candy Mountain.
