Ernest Elmo Vial

COTTAGE GROVE-Ernest Elmo Vial, age 87, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at Columbus Community Hospital.  He was born on July 17, 1930, in Linden, Wis., the son of Ortis and Yvetta (Holmes) Vial.  Elmo graduated from Linden High School in 1948.  He married the love of his life Lois Jean Thorison on Jan. 28, 1950, in Linden.  Elmo drove route truck for Gardner Bakery for 40 plus years.  He spent many years gardening and raising beef in Cottage Grove and then retired to his cabin in Necedah.  Elmo loved to watch the Packers, Brewers and Bucks, but especially loved spending time with his family at the cabin and was always open to sing you a little tune.  Elmo is survived by his wife, Lois; children, Eugene Vial, Vicki Williams, Terry Vial and Sheila Scheder; grandchildren, Kristine, Alex, Matt, Tyler, Megan, Heather, Chandra, Erica, Tim, Kaley, Travis and Austin; his brother, Don; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Gary and Rick Vial; son-in-law, Brad Williams; and daughter-in-law, Linda Vial.  A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, 2018, followed by a burial at HIGHLAND MEMORY GARDENS, with Pastor Larry Jordan presiding.  A celebration of life will be held at EASTSIDE CLUB, 3735 Monona Dr., Madison, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. following the burial.
