Stephen Francis Cantwell

MIDDLETON/JANESVILLE-Stephen F. Cantwell, age 72, of Middleton, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Janesville.  He was born on February 2, 1946, in Madison, Wis., the son of William and Florence (Lacke) Cantwell. Stephen graduated from Middleton High School where he participated in musical theater and excelled in athletics as a star guard and left-handed pitcher. He briefly pitched at Wisconsin and tended bar at the Brat House. He went on to earn his Master’s Degree in Business from the UW-Madison.  Stephen was employed as a Computer Software salesman for various technical companies until his retirement. He was a past member and cantor at St. Bernard Catholic Church and a member of the Middleton Optimist Club. Stephen was an avid fan of Wisconsin sports including the Badgers, Packers and Brewers and enjoyed drawing artworks, but loved most of all the time he shared with family and friends. Survivors include his three sons, Stephen (Kari), Michael (Heidi), Kevin (Danielle); his daughter, Elizabeth Cantwell; eight Grandchildren, Tanner, Micah, Emmet, Ashton, Cason, Ryann, Blakely, Colton; Suzanne McClaren; four brothers, Michael (Jeanette), Jeffrey, Patrick(Jeanne), Edward (Daylene) Cantwell; his sister, Beverly (Tom) Hayman; and other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Connie Jordee; and three brothers, Roger, Thomas, Daniel "Banjo" Cantwell.  A Memorial Gathering will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, on Friday, May 18, 2018, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
