Obituary
MADISON - Lynn D. Hodges, born on Aug. 1, 1943, in Plainview, Texas, passed away peacefully on Oct. 1, 2024, at Oak Park Place Nakoma, after a courageous 30-year battle with cancer. Her quick wit and sense of humor remained with her until her final moments, leaving a legacy of strength, love, and laughter for her dear friends and girls.
Lynn graduated from Horlick High School in Racine with the class of 1961 and went on to further her education at UW-Madison, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. Her career was bookended by teaching within the Madison School District, and while she was raising her two daughters, she was a successful small business owner.
Lynn was known for her determination, loyalty, independent spirit and, above all, her class. A natural leader, she cared deeply for others and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Growing up as an only child, she kept herself busy with social gatherings, traveling to spend time with friends across the country, and enjoying her homes in Madison and Chicago. Her love for Badger football was legendary, and her decades of volunteer work at Attic Angels created bonds with 'The Flakes' that were movie script material.
She most cherished the close bond she shared with her daughters. Lynn meticulously planned numerous vacations, ensuring that every event created lasting memories for her family. The strength that she showed was especially prevalent in her later years while fighting multiple myeloma while also being a fun and loving Nana to her granddaughter.
Lynn will be dearly missed by her daughters, Deana (Bryan) Condra of Madison, WI, and Jessica Brandenburg of Chicago, IL, and her cherished granddaughter, Courtney Condra. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and R. Mayo Hodges.
A celebration of life will be held in her honor at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Attic Angel (atticangel.org/about/give/). Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
