Obituary
MADISON-Joann Mautz, age 86, of Madison, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018. She was born on May 24, 1931, in Marxville, Wis., the daughter of Frederick and Irene (Endres) Statz. Joann graduated from Mazomanie High School, class of 1949. She worked for Gisholt Machine Co. in the 1950's prior to working for Master Graphics where she worked as a bookkeeper for 42 years. Joann met her future husband, Bud Mautz on New Year’s Eve in 1956, at the old Turner hall where she loved to dance. They were married on Aug. 3, 1957. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years, serving as Dane County President and 3rd District Auxiliary President, and was active until the time of her passing. She was instrumental in starting the state auxiliary bowling tournament. Joann spent many hours volunteering for the American Legion and received the Volunteer of the Year Award. She pitched horseshoes and bowled in a women's league and mixed couple's league for many years. Joann enjoyed camping at Pride of America Campground and loved watching all Wisconsin sports. She especially enjoyed time spent with her family, including making homemade soup every Sunday for everyone. Joann is survived by her husband, Bud; sons, John (Arline) Barman, James Mautz (Stacy Billings) and Jeff (Sue) Mautz; grandchildren, David (Shannon) Barman, Taylor Mautz and Alissa Mautz; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Chloe Barman; sister, Donna Rauls; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Mautz; and nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, LaVerne Barman; daughter, DeAnne Mautz; sisters, Lucille Brunner, Marie Ballweg, LaVerne Noltner and Doris Pierce; brother, Fritz Statz Jr.; father and mother-in-law, Adalbert and Tony Mautz; and brother-in-law, Henry Mautz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 North Sherman Ave., Madison, at 12 Noon on Thursday, April 26, 2018, with Monsignor Charles Schluter presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the building fund for the American Legion Post No. 333 in Sun Prairie. The family wishes to thank the staff at Visiting Angels, Unity Point Health and Heartland Hospice for all of their wonderful care and compassion.
