Obituary

MADISON-On Sunday, April 1, 2018, this world lost a great man.  Henry Frederick “Fred” Fuller Jr. was born on July 6, 1925, the only son of Henry Frederick and Edith (Mack) Fuller.  It’s difficult to describe the man Fred was in a few lines.  Words that come to mind are gracious, kind, humble, respectful, accepting, adventurous, loyal, integrity and hardworking.  His accomplishments over 92 years are too many to list here, but he was most proud of these things:  he was a World War II veteran who endured things he could never talk about; he was a pillar in his community and cherished his many years as a Boy Scout leader, teaching and mentoring so many young men; he was one of the founders of the Orton Park festival, even supplying the electricity from his home.  Baseball was his first love, playing semi-pro ball for Security Bank back in the 1940’s and 1950’s. The grandest love of his life was his wife, Delores Linden whom he married 74 years ago on April 3, 1944.  They worked side by side in their tree trimming business before he began working at the Vilas Zoo where he befriended the bears, and then a great many years for the Madison Water Utility. Fred had a love of camping and taught us to appreciate adventure.  Even in winter he’d pull the camper to the ski hills with his family.  He and Delores enjoyed square dancing and made many lifelong friends.   He was a family man to the core and gave his family the greatest gift of all – his time and devotion.  His teachings are endless and his method was simple.  He taught by example and faithfully lived his values.  He taught his children the same.  Fred is survived by his wife, Delores; their eight children, H. Fred Fuller IV, Luanne (Ron) Ridley, Patricia (Dan) Jaekel, Sue Ellen (Jim) Hannon, Jeffry (Mary) Fuller, Connie (Paul) Huemmer, Marcia (Chris) Howe and Linda (Chris) Genin; 24 grands; and 26 great-grands.  He is further survived by his sister, Shari Norsetter; and many dear nieces, nephews and friends.   Fred was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Edith Troia and Mary Lohr.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 6, 2018.  Burial will be at Sacred Hearts Cemetery in Sun Prairie. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2018, and also at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Friday.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Agrace HospiceCare who we’d like to thank for providing him with such tender care.  This wonderful man passed on with fulfillment in his heart.  He knew he was a great success in the things that mattered most; as a husband, a father and a grandpa, a brother and a son, an uncle and a friend.   He gave and received love like no other.  Papa, we’ll miss the chocolate malts and campfires together, but mostly we’ll miss your sweet smiles, your tender touch and your wisdom.  Tally Ho. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.  Gunderson East Funeral & Cremation Care 5203 Monona Drive 608-221-5420

There are so many sweet memories. Those memories travel way back to when we lived on Spaight Street around the corner from your house on Few Street. Uncle Fred was such a presence in my childhood and youth. I was always glad to give him a kiss and a hug and hear his cheerful greeting and see his kind smile. He will be missed very much. His niece and godchild, Sally Schneider Webb

Delores and Family, so sorry to read of Fred's passing. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Fred played a small role in my formative years as the Scout Master of our troop at St. Bernards which I am forever grateful.

There are few men that I admired and respected more than Fred Fuller. He truly was a great success at the things that matter most in life. When my father died, Fred Fuller was the first name on the list of pallbearers.

Dearest Delores, Linda, Marcia, Jeffry, Connie and the rest of the Fuller family, on behalf of the Fisher family I would like to send our sympathies to you all on the passing of Fred. I remember sleepovers at your house when Linda and I are were probably a little too loud, giggling and talking all night - mostly about boys. The next morning we would have breakfast together with Fred and Delores and they were always so gracious and kind. Whenever I saw your dad he was quick with a smile and a hello, and a how are you. Fond memories of being at your home and growing up with the Fuller family will forever remain. The Fullers were the heart that surrounded Orton Park.
