Obituary

Oregon - Betty Ann Meier, age 89, of Oregon, passed away peacefully in her home Thursday, June 27, 2024.  She was born on September 11, 1934, in Madison, the daughter of Norman and Celia McMicken.

Betty was married to the love of her life, Bill Meier, for 61 years.  Together they were blessed with eight children, fifteen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.  Betty’s life mission was raising her family.  She took great pride in how her large family grew.  Betty and Bill’s life lessons created a large close-knit family that enjoys and respects each other.  Large family gatherings at the Meier household are commonplace and fun.

Betty was an avid sports fan!  She loved cheering on the Brewers, Packers, and Badgers, as well as her kids’ and grandkids’ teams and any of her kids’ “favorites.”  She played many sports in her younger years and attended many Brewer, Packer and Badger games as an adult.  She enjoyed mowing her lawn (crisscross!), tending her garden and could be spotted driving her ’94 Chevy wagon just two weeks ago.  Betty was a member of People’s United Methodist Church where she loved the worship, fellowship and had many friends.  She was an active volunteer in her church and throughout the Oregon community.  She worked in the Oregon High School lunch program for more than twenty five years where she made many friends and served many of our Oregon youth.  She loved our youth and is still remembered, visited and acknowledged by many who see her in town or seek her company.

Betty will be dearly missed by her eight children Judy (Bob) Walker, Cindy MacEwen (Mike Braley), Carol (Hector) Rodriguez, Bill Jr. (Rosemary) Meier, Joan (Kirk) Braley, Celia (Maurice) Meyers, Paul Meier and Chris Meier; her fifteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters-in law Susan Lehman, Ann May and Elda Meier; brother-in-law Fred Kempfer; many nieces and nephews and many friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill Meier, son-in-law Greg MacEwen; sisters Gladys (Maurice) Short, Dorothy (Loren) Williams, Mae (Robert) Klein and Jean (Ken) Buchanan; brothers Bill Rowlands, Sam (Donna) McMicken, and Roy (Delores) McMicken; brothers-in-law Eugene (Martha) Meier, Ernie Lehman, Mel Meier, and Billy May; sisters-in-law Betty Schroeder and Mary Kempfer; and many nieces and nephews.

The children of Betty Meier would like to express sincere gratitude to Rosalie Haas, their family caregiver, and Mandi and Jamie from Agrace Hospice.

A funeral service will be held at PEOPLE’S UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 103 N Alpine Parkway, Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 5, 2024, with the Rev. Dan Dick presiding. Burial will take place at Prairie Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
