Obituary
MADISON-Barbara D. Maloney, age 82, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018, at UW Hospital and Clinic. She was born on April 28, 1935, in Queens, NY, the daughter of Edward and Margaret (Finlay) Dusman. Barbara married David Hill in July 1995 at Olbrich Botanical Gardens. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science, and in 1973 with her Masters in Social Work. After graduation, Barbara worked with students as a mentor in the UW Dept. of Social Work. She worked as a Psychotherapist for Dane County and then in private practice at the Integral Psychology Center. She also worked for a short time in New York City after 9/11 as a grief and trauma counselor, and was a member of the Preferred Mental Health Providers of Dane County. For several years in the 1970’s, Barbara owned a boarding stable near Verona. One of Barbara’s greatest qualities was her strength. She demonstrated this in many ways both in her home life and in her work. She was a dedicated mother and raised her two boys by herself, while pursuing her career in Psychotherapy. Barbara and her husband enjoyed their dogs and cats, and travelling and visiting their cabin in Vilas County as often as possible. She was an avid photographer, particularly interested in flowers and landscapes. Barbara is survived by her husband, David Hill; her two sons, Matthew Maloney, and Patrick (Kristen Bille) Maloney; her sister, many nieces and nephews, and countless other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her two brothers. A memorial gathering in Barbara's honor will be held at OLBRICH BOTANICAL GARDENS, 3330 Atwood Ave., Madison, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday June 3, 2018. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of UW Hospital for their compassionate care.

Barb was teacher, mentor, and life coach (she would have hated that expression) to a generation of social workers. She guided us through the early stages of our careers and we will always be indebted to her for her compassion and her wisdom.
