Obituary

MADISON-Ronald Ofstun, age 58, passed away from non-clear cell renal carcinoma, a rare form of kidney cancer, on Monday, March 19, 2018, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg with his family by his side.  Ron was a lifelong runner, competing in numerous long distance races and area fun runs. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed running and biking the Glacial Drumlin State Trail. He also enjoyed traveling and visiting national parks. He had many happy trips visiting his daughter and exploring the San Jose, Monterey, and San Francisco areas.  Ron worked for 20 years for Fish Building Supply and 17 years for the City of Madison Streets Dept. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Cynthia; and their children, Alison (Oday Albakri) Ofstun, of San Jose, Calif., and son, Nicholas, of Madison; and his adored grandsons, Hatim and Noah Albakri. He is further survived by his mom, Eloise; his brother, Richard (Lucille) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and niece and nephew, Emily and Adam Ofstun. He was preceded in death by his dad, Peter.   A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018. A private interment will be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Carbone Cancer Center to support kidney cancer research or to Agrace HospiceCare, whose staff gave him great comfort the last months of his life.  In memory of Ron, enter an area fun run or walk that supports a charity of your choice and think of Ron and the joy he received from outdoor exercise. Ron wanted to thank so many people who helped him this last year, especially his big brother, Rick, brother-in-law, Dave Prine, special niece and nephew, Rhianna and Jonathan Prine, uncle, Arnie and aunt, Sonja Skrede, uncle, Joe and aunt, Nyla Pavelec, and wonderful friends and neighbors, Nick and Marilyn Hornung, and Therese and Sue from UW Hospital Case Management. Your kindness and support will never be forgotten. Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed and very dear.
