Obituary

OREGON-Marguerite Rose “Peg” (Mrotek) Kellogg was born on Nov. 16, 1918, and passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018.  In Peg’s own words: “I had a childhood that most kids could only dream of having. My home town of Manitowoc, had beautiful parks and beaches, and a good library. I also had a wonderful loving family, my father, Michael and mother, Gretchen Mrotek, my brothers, George and Jim, and my surviving sister, closest friend and confidant, Barbara Stubbs.”  After graduating from Lincoln High School, Peg completed nurses training in Chicago.  She enlisted in the U.S. Army to help with the war effort during World War II. While in Chicago she met U.S. Navy husband-to-be, Lloyd Stephen Kellogg on a blind date arranged by her sister, Barbara.  Lloyd was shipped to Guadalcanal as a pharmacist mate, and Peg was sent to Europe as a field nurse with the 60th Field Hospital of Patton’s 3rd U.S. Army.  Lloyd and Peg carried on their courtship across two oceans until Lloyd was reassigned to medical school at the University of Illinois. During her tour of duty, lasting through the end of the war, as a front line field hospital nurse, Peg earned a Bronze Star and five Battle Stars. Upon Peg’s return, she and Lloyd were married in Manitowoc on Nov. 24, 1945.  They remained married with love and devotion for 70 years, raising a family of four in Oregon, Michael (Janice), Stephen (Diane), Elizabeth (Ken LePine), and Mark (Marilyn).  Peg and Lloyd had eight grandchildren, Laurie, Valerie, and Tom (Mike and Janice), Amy and Jill (Steve and Diane), Todd and Josh (Beth and Ken), and Sara (Mark and Marilyn); and 11 great-grandchildren, Ella and Jack (Laurie and Steve) Johnson, Sam (Valerie and Brian) Hammer, Bryce (Amy and Brian) Mayer, Kailey and Parker (Jill and Brian) Stollenwerk, Logan and Lauren (Todd and Penny) LePine, and Joey, Naomi, and Matthew (Josh and Sonja) LePine.  Peg was preceded in death by her parents; brothers; husband; and oldest son, Michael.  Private family remembrances will be held at a later date.  Memorials may be gifted in Peg’s name to The Friends of the Oregon Library or Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. Peg, You were one of the strongest ladies I've ever known (and stubborn) but I think that's why we clicked so well. I am so thankful for getting to know you and being able to help care for you, it was the highlight of my week! You lived a great and full life and raised such a wonderful family. I will miss you but I'm glad you're at peace now. Love Rose

Peg was a great neighbor for our family and good friends with my parents Rita and Bill and the rest of the bridge club group. Growing up, she was always very nice to the kids in the neighborhood by sugaring us up with sweets and chatting on how are days were going. After moving back to the neighborhood it was nice talking to her again and admiring her beautiful flowers. She was the last of the greatest generation in the neighborhood and will be missed by all. Charlie Plummer and family.
