MADISON-Marlene J. Ottum, age 81, of Madison, passed away on Friday, March 16, 2018, at Capitol Lakes, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on Oct. 19, 1936, in Pardeeville, the daughter of Christopher and Bessie (Coates) McConochie. Marlene was united in marriage to James Ottum. She graduated from Pardeeville and worked at UW-Madison as a payroll processor. Marlene was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 410. She enjoyed reading, loved to travel and especially loved the warm Florida winters. She was a huge Badgers fan and liked to listen to country music. Marlene is survived by her husband; three sons, Greg (Deborah) Faust, Timothy (Debra Sutter) Faust and William Faust (Michelle Krueger) ; her step-daughter, Laurie; and numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and son, Christopher Faust. Per Marlene's request, a private family service has taken place. A special thanks to the staff at Capitol Lakes and Agrace HospiceCare. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare in memory of Marlene. I had the privilege to work with Marlene during her many years of employment at the University. She was a very dedicated, cheerful and professional employee. In knowing and working with Marlene was an honor. For many years, Marlene was one of my riders to and from work. We always had great conversations during these rides. She was a great mother and we all knew her sons were always her great pride and joy. My sincere sympathy and thoughts to Marlene's husband, sons and their families.
