Obituary

MADISON-Richard S. Helsell, age 55, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2018, at his home. He was born on July 13, 1962, in Madison, the son of Richard Helsell and Dorothy (Parks) Helsell-Prieve, and attended Madison East High School. Richard enjoyed doing anything outdoors. His love for nature kept him outside where he was always camping or fishing.  He also had a deep love for arboriculture and was an avid arborist for many years. Richard had a great love for music, dancing, and he enjoyed antiquing. More than anything he enjoyed spending time with his family! Richard is survived by his two sons, Richard S. (Katie), and Nathan; and his daughter, Nicole (Jimmy) Uphoff; his three grandsons, Austin Helsell, James Uphoff, Jr., and Colin Uphoff; and granddaughter, Kaylee Uphoff. He is further survived by his four brothers, Ronald (Mary) Dodge, Steven Helsell, Mike Helsell, and Kevin Helsell; five sisters, Sherrie (Peter) Schad, Susan (Daniel) Russell, Tammy (Brian) Helsell-Hass, Jolene Helsell, and Jeri Helsell; and his lifelong partner, Brenda Helsell. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, David Dodge.  A Memorial Service will be held at GUNDERSON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2018.
