Obituary

MADISON-Marcia Elaine Burmeister, age 78, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018, after 15 years as a resident of Oakwood Village University Woods in Madison, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her father, Earl in 1964 and her mother Bernadine (Elsea) in 1997. After her mother passed away Marcia lived independently until health issues necessitated a move to assisted living.  Marcia was born November 6, 1939 in Madison, Wisconsin. She graduated from Madison West High School in 1957 and worked for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for 34 years. Marcia was a passionate member of Luther Memorial Church and a long time member of the church choir. Marcia was also Chairperson of the Spiritual Life Committee at Oakwood Village.  Marcia loved making the classic baked beans for the annual Burmeister family gathering, driving her little red car and researching the history and genealogy of her family heritage.  Marcia had a very generous heart and enjoyed writing checks to the many charitable causes she supported. Marcia is survived by her brother, Ron (Carol) Burmeister of Rockford, Illinois, nephew Jeff (Jennifer) Burmeister of Atlanta, Georgia and niece Julie (Tom) Delbrook of Atlanta, Georgia, great nephews Nick and Justin Delbrook, a large extended Burmeister family, longtime friend and caretaker Renee Reindl and cousin Gregg Burmeister who were Marcia's champions and advocates. Special thanks to the staff at Hebron Oaks Skilled Nursing Center at Oakwood Village and Agrace Hospice & Palliative Care for their guidance and support during Marcia's final days.  A service to celebrate Marcia's life will be held at LUTHER MEMORIAL CHURCH, 1021 University Avenue, Madison, on Saturday, April 7 beginning at 11:00 AM. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM until the time of service and a luncheon will follow in the Luther Memorial Great Room. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Luther Memorial Church, WAGS (Wisconsin Academy for Graduate Service Dogs), and any reading/literacy program of your choice. Marcia was such a friendly and caring person. This was evident every time my mother, Esther McLeod, and I returned to our old neighborhood on Chadbourne Avenue. When we stopped in to visit Marcia and her mother, we not only received a big welcome but great interest in whatever we had to say. Just like her mother, Marcia was the perfect host. There was always good conversation and often a homemade treat. I remember Marcia's cheerful face and willingness to please. She was a good daughter and a generous spirit. She will be missed. I send my condolences to family and friends. Margaret McLeod Buege, Greenfield , WI.
