John W. Davidson

POYNETTE-John W. Davidson, age 78, of Poynette, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Hamilton Park Place. He was born on June 24, 1939, in Madison, the son of Vearl and Nellie (Bergh) Davidson. John graduated from Madison East High School, class of 1957.  He played football in high school and his later years enjoyed playing softball. He married Donna Brackett on Nov. 1, 1958, in Madison.  John served in the U.S. Marines.  He worked for Madison Gas and Electric, as a Class A pipefitter for 47 years, retiring in 2004.  His friends and co-workers affectionately called him either "Wimpy" or "Sarge".  John enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and bowling in several leagues over the years.  John also enjoyed playing cards, especially Texas Hold'em, and watching old game shows and westerns.  In his younger years, John enjoyed midget car racing, and was a Packers and Brewers fan. He loved riding his motorcycle and attending all of his children's and grandchildren's sporting events throughout the years.  John is survived by his children, Darlene, Duane (Beth) and Deborah Davidson; six grandchildren, Kendra, Duane (Jamie) Jr., Lucas, Zachary Davidson, Charity (David) Bellin and Chase Swenson; four great-grandchildren, Zaiden and Declan Davidson, Caden Bellin, and a great-granddaughter on the way; sisters, Ruth Saaf Falter and Linda (David) Bredeson; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna; and grandchild, Daniel Davidson.  Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2018. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2018, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
