MADISON-Robert J. "Bob" Hugo, age 84, of Fitchburg, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at UW Hospital. He was born on July 8, 1933, in Madison, the son of Harold and Margaret (Barber) Hugo. Bob was also the Chairman of Dane County Community Action Commission in the 1970s. He loved cars and was proud to own one of the first Avantis manufactured. Bob enjoyed reading American Scientific and actually understood what he read. Bob is survived by his special friend, Kimberley Hart; son, Jeffrey Krause of Lacrosse; nephews, Kermit (Ruth) Hugo, Richard Hugo II, John Hugo, Jim Hugo, and Dave Hugo; nieces, Valerie Hugo and Lynn (Tim) Schommer; and his faithful cat, Kimkat. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Richard Hugo; younger brother, Victor Hugo; sister-in-law, Carol Hugo; and great-niece, Rachel Hugo who was killed in Iraq. A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Rd, Fitchburg, at 12 Noon, on Friday, March 16, 2018, followed by a luncheon at the funeral home. How do you summarize a lifetime in a paragraph? How do you convey all of the love, humor, intelligence, dedication, wisdom, and caring in a few sentences? You were loved greatly and will be missed beyond measure.
What made us friends
So long ago?
When first we met
I think I know.
The best in me
And the best in you
Hailed each other
Because we knew
That always and ever
Since time began,
Our being friends
Was part of a plan.

I have so many childhood memories that it would be hard to list my favorite one. We lived a few hours apart so I would see my dad once a week and then a few weeks every summer. It may not seem like much time but he always made the most of it and he introduced me to so many different things. My memories of those times are vivid and I remember them well. I dragged him to the Disney animated version of Robin Hood four weeks in a row. I don't think I appreciated that until I was an adult. I think he bought me every GI Joe action figure that ever existed. We launched rockets in a field next to his house. He taught me to scuba dive in a pool . My first experience with fired chicken and coleslaw was on a rainy day sitting in his Avanti at a park. These may seem like insignificant memories and there are so many more, but they have been with me for the last forty or more years and I believe they inspired me to be the father I am today.

What can you say about someone as special as you? I had the privilege of being part of your life, enjoyed the silly jokes. Our time is over now. But the memories of my time with you will last forever. Thank you for all the knowledge that you taught me. I enjoyed spending the holidays with you. Just sitting around talking. Bob, you are dearly missed.
