Obituary
Steven Gregory Esser, age 46, passed away peacefully at home of natural causes on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018. He was born on Jan. 13, 1972, in Madison, the son of Charlie Esser and Charlotte Wallin. Steve currently worked for the State of Wisconsin and Market Square Theater for over 20 years and recently proudly worked as a dispatcher for the Fitchburg Police Dept. As a UW-Madison graduate he was a fan of Badgers Hockey and also a fan of the Steelers, Brewers, and Red Wings. As was said by Steve’s friends, he was the “king of friends” like his idol Elvis Presley was the King of Rock and Roll. Steve was always a giver rather than a receiver. If the love that Steve gave to his family and friends could have kept him here with us, Steve would surely still be here. Steve’s love was so strong and powerful that he will remain in our hearts and memories forever. Steve’s favorite Elvis motto was “TCB” Taking Care of Business In A Flash, which is happening now in Heaven for sure. Steve is survived by his fiancee, Michelle Seyda; his mother Charlotte Wallin; father, Charlie (Mary) Esser; brother, Jeff Esser; godmother, Aunt Bette Lou Esser and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Greg and Mary (Kiley) Esser; maternal grandparents, Fred and Margaret (Lenzendorf) Wallin; Godfather, Uncle Tom Esser; Uncle David Wallin and Uncle Doug Wallin. Private family services were held with burial in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held in the reception center of GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018. As Steve’s favorite cowboy star Roy Rogers said at the end of the show, “Happy Trails to you, until we meet again”. This means so much to his family and friends now. Rest in peace and be with the angels.

My condolences to Steve's fiance, Michelle, and all his family & friends. For over 16 years, Steve was a friend who made my days better, any time we spoke. Working with him for more than a decade was a joy, and I'm so glad we remained friends for several years after. I'm only sorry that recently we let over a year go by without getting in touch, but I know that our friendship never waned and when we meet again one day it will be just like old times as he'll stop to ask me, "Got something good for me today?" or just to look at me until I laugh. Thank you, Steve, for making this world a brighter place--I have no doubt you're helping your beloved King brighten up the next.
