Obituary

FITCHBURG-John J. Buchner, age 89, of Fitchburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018. He was born on July 7, 1928, in Madison, to Anton J. and Gizela (Geresh) Buchner.  The family moved to the Oregon area in 1922, where John attended Lakeview and Oregon School Systems.  During those early years he worked in the two general stores the family owned, one in the Lake Waubesa, Brickson Park area and the other at the corner of Hwy MM and B.  After high school graduation he attended Madison Business College in Madison and earned his business degree.  Upon graduation he worked for the Dane County Highway Garage as office business manager.  He took immense pride in serving the people of Dane County for 40 years.  John loved gardening, tending to his special flower beds, and spending time at Olbrich Botanical Gardens in Madison. He took special pride in his home, his immaculate yard, and trees and foliage.  John is survived by his niece and nephews, Karen (James) Frank, Robert (Susan) Buchner, and Jack (Melanie) Martino; and their immediate families.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sister; and brother.  A graveside service will be held at OAK HALL CEMETERY, Hwy M, in Fitchburg, at 12 Noon, on Saturday, March 3, 2018.  A luncheon will follow at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Rd., Fitchburg.  John’s family wishes to thank David and Kim Buchner for all of their assistance and comprehensive functional support that allowed John to be as comfortable as possible in his beloved home.  They also wish to thank Jean Grimm who as John’s caretaker, unselfishly gave her time to assist John in so many ways, and in addition, Jean’s beloved dog, Maury, who held a strong emotional bond with John.  Gunderson Fitchburg Funeral & Cremation Care 2950 Chapel Valley Road (608)442-5002

John was a great supporter of the Fitchburg Public Library, and we are sad to hear of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.
