Obituary

MADISON-Andrew Birk Phipps passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018.  He was born on Nov. 30, 1995, and lived his life in Woodbury, Minn., but spent most of his time in the surrounding countryside of Minnesota and Wisconsin.  He was a 2014 graduate of East Ridge High School.  At the time of his passing, he was pursuing a career in heavy equipment operation and directional drilling.  During his time on this earth, Andrew pursued his passions while working in dairy farming and agriculture.  In addition to this, for his entire life he had a great love of horses and was fortunate to spend many hours managing a horse stable and caring for them.  If you looked to either the left or right as you rode through Cottage Grove or Afton, you could see him combining for a local farmer.  Andrew always had a great love for the outdoors and was an avid archer, fisherman and hunter.  Andrew will be dearly missed by his mother and father, Ann and Chuck; his brothers, Sam and Graham; his grandparents, Dick and Mary Iglar; and his many aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous others.  He was preceded in death by his grandpa, Howard.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held to celebrate Andrew’s life at GUARDIAN ANGEL’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 8260 4th St., N. Oakdale, Minn., at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 16, 2018. Visitation will be held at church from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial in Andrew’s honor to the Minnesota Hooved Animal Rescue Foundation in Zimmerman, MN (mnhoovedanimalrescue.org), an organization in which he had a personal connection.  Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com  Gunderson East Funeral & Cremation Care 5203 Monona Dr. (608) 221-5420

Chuck and Ann: I knew Andrew through Anne as a teacher. Always through her eyes of a polite, kind, and caring young child that Anne thought the world of. When he came with Ann to the house one night to have dinner I met a young adult finding his way to his life. He still was a polite, kind and caring person, but now add he was growing up and it was awesome to sit and talk and share a meal with him. I am so saddened at his physical death and I am even more so that I can not offer anything to make this pain less. Just know he was a special man and we will always remember him and your love for him! Steve

So many stories, but my absolute favorite one involves a hose. I was looking out the window as Ann and I were talking on the phone and around the corner of her house comes Andrew wearing his yellow boots, a cowboy hat and carrying a garden hose (and it was on full blast). I thought he was going to water the herb garden, but instead, he whipped open the screen door and went inside with the running hose. I heard the phone drop and saw all three (Ann, Andrew and the hose) come back outside. She picked up the phone and told me he would be coming over to my house for awhile so she could soak up all the water on the carpet. He stomped over through the yards and he was not happy that the hose had been taken away. I still laugh about that story and send all my love, prayers, thoughts and hugs to Ann, Chuck, Sam and Graham. Love you, Amy Skaj

Dear Phipps family, Some of my favorite memories of Andrew were when I would drive over to Amy's house and all the boys would run out to me yelling, "Aunt Ticky is here!" They would help me unload all the junk food I brought. Andrew would always say "thanks Aunt Ticky" He made me feel like I was his real aunt and I loved it! may God bless all of you and my prayers are with you all. love, "Aunt Ticky"
