Obituary

MADISON - Donna Jean Hasz, age 92, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was born on July 14, 1932, in Madison, the daughter of Simon and Inga (Moen) Anderson.

Donna was a proud East-sider. She graduated from Madison East High School in 1950 and was very involved with athletics in high school. She especially enjoyed her time on the volleyball team.

After graduating, she began working at the State Board of Health. On April 12, 1955, she received a phone call from the nation’s capital announcing that a polio vaccine had been approved and released for use.

She married William Hasz on May 28, 1955, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison. She worked as a purchasing agent for the Madison Metropolitan School District, retiring in 1996.

When her children were young, Donna was an active parent volunteer with the Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and PTA. She was a passionate bowler and a dedicated member of the local Elks Club. A lifelong Badger fan, she especially loved football and basketball and took great pride in supporting her daughter on the Badger women’s rowing team. Standing tall, she embraced her Norwegian heritage with pride. Around town, she was famous at gatherings for her delicious brownies, spaghetti, and potato salad!

Donna’s greatest joy came from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished every moment spent with them.

Donna is survived by her two daughters, Sally (Dan) Luck and Barb (Jim) Paul; son, Bill (Christal) Hasz; daughter-in-law, Tracey Hasz; grandchildren, Andrew (Amanda) Handorf and Jacob, Brooke and Paige Hasz, Katy Luck and Amy (Ryan) Schmudlach; great-granddaughters, Anniston, Averly, Adelina, Jasmine, Kya, Sophia, Norah, Inga and Ella; and great-grandson, Finn. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jean Hasz, and many nieces and nephews. I'm so very sorry for your loss. I remember fun times on Fish Hatchery Road. I remember babysitting both Hasz families. I liked it when Donna and Bill screened in their garage and made it one of the first 3-season porches. Many fun neighborhood parties in that garage. Donna is remembered by all the Indermuehle kids. Love, Donna (Indermuehle) Knickmeyer.
