Obituary
MADISON-Rita A. (Foster) Quast, age 66, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, at UW Hospital and Clinics. She was born on Aug. 18, 1951, in Madison, the daughter of Don and Louise (Joyce) Foster. Rita graduated from LaFollette High School, class of 1969. She married Steven Quast on Oct. 8, 1978. Rita worked as a teacher for Cameron Middle School and McGavock Elementary Schools in Nashville. She was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Nashville, Tenn. Rita is survived by her children, Allison (Chad) Desmond and Matthew (Rebeca) Quast; grandchildren, Kendall Desmond, Sophie Rubio and Bo Desmond; sister, Faye Foster (Jay Funkhouser); brother, Greg Foster; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Steven; sister, Linda Foster; and sisters-in-law, Gale Foster and Shelly Foster. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Rd., Madison, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday Jan. 27, 2018, with Father Randy Timmerman presiding. Burial will be held at Burlington Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Saturday. Memorials may be made to the ALS Association or to her grandchildren's college education funds.

Rita was my friend during grade school, jr high, and high school. We grew up together in so many ways. Some of my fondest memories are of her, me, and Sue Donahue sitting in the swing in my backyard talking about everything and then walking them home, then they walking me home, and on it went until finally we said goodbye until the next phone call...her smile, her laugh, her caring demeanor are what I remember most about Rita. I would like to offer my condolences to the family. Mere words cannot express the grief that comes from losing a dear loved one to death. Allison, so sorry to hear about your Mom. We will keep you and your family in our prayers! Wonderful memories of sharing Metro school stories, Brownie Scount trips, SES basketball games, sleepovers, etc.
