MADISON-Elizabeth Mary “Liz” Shillingburg, age 54, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018 at UW Hospital and Clinics. She was born on March 29, 1963 in Richland Center, the daughter of Marion and Della (Swoboda) Balousek. Liz graduated from Madison Business College. She was united in marriage to Ralph Shillingburg on Sept. 14, 1985, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Liz worked as a claims adjuster at Physicians Plus Insurance Company. She was an active member of Good Shepherd Catholic Parish at the St. Joseph Church in Madison. As a volunteer, Liz educated children at St. Joseph’s, provided food for the hungry, and helped to rescue animals at the Dane County Humane Society and Sheltie Dog Rescue. She was a devoted wife and mother. Liz always put her family first and was a source of boundless, unconditional love. She had a fondness for all animals and took special care of her dogs. Liz’s faith was central to her identity and she often said that in sharing her faith with others, she was given so much more in return. Her warm smile and generous spirit brought joy to all who knew and loved her. Liz was sharp, witty, and had a strong business acumen. In her free time, She enjoyed listening to music (Elton John was her favorite), and growing flowers in her garden. Liz loved traveling and took trips with her family to Jamaica, Hawaii, the Bahamas, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. She is survived by her husband, Ralph; two daughters, Claire Ann Shillingburg and Andrea Mary Shillingburg; son, Dryden Joseph Shillingburg; two brothers, Peter (Carol) Balousek and Michael Balousek; and two sisters, Deanne (Warren) Hellenbrand and Deborah (Nick) Homer. Liz was preceded in death by her parents. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at GOOD SHEPHERD CATHOLIC PARISH AT THE SAINT JOSEPH CHURCH, 1905 W. Beltline Hwy., Madison at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 5th, 2018, with Fr. John Sasse presiding. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Monday. My condolences to the family, Liz was a beautiful woman. She was my classmate and friend we share the same birthday which she and I found special. I remember many good times at her house while growing up and after high school she introduced me to Mary Kay. You will be greatly missed by many.

Liz and I worked together the past few years in Claims at Physicians Plus Insurance. She was the most genuine, caring person that I have ever known. Her family, dogs and faith were the most important things in her life. We also loved to talk about the Badgers, Packers and Brewers. She was taken from us way too soon. I will certainly miss her daily smile and happy demeanor.
