Obituary

MADISON-Eulalia “Butch” Ruetten, age 87, of Madison, passed away on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018. She was born in Fennimore on Jan. 30, 1931, to Reynold and Helen (O’Brien) Ruetten. Butch graduated from Fennimore High School, and St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1951. She worked at William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison her entire working career and became a head nurse.  She was a private person who enjoyed reading and the outdoors, taking long walks and even learning how to ice skate on the Vilas Park lagoon.  After retirement, while caring for her mother in Fennimore, she enjoyed gardening. She loved travelling, volunteering at the Red Cross and participating in St. Mary's Alumni activities.  She attended Mass as a devoted Catholic all her life. Butch is survived by her brother, Keith Ruetten of New York; seven nieces; one nephew; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Francis and David Ruetten; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann and Joan Ruetten; and special friend, Frank Tamas. "Butch" was my first head nurse when I worked at V.A. She was a taskmaster and I loved her for it. 3A was a great unit and well run. I learned a lot from this special head nurse.
