Roger Francis Karn

MADISON-Roger F. Karn, age 81, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.  He was born on April 28, 1936, the son of Ralph and Myrtle (Maymie) (Washburn) Karn.  Roger graduated from Black Earth High School in 1954.  He married Dawn Nesheim on Oct. 27, 1956, at Mt. Horeb Evangelical Lutheran Church.  Roger worked for Research Products Corporation for 32 years and retired in 1998.  Roger enjoyed spending time with his family.  He loved attending sporting events especially when it involved his grandchildren and other family members.  He attended Badger football and basketball games for many years.  Roger was an avid musky fisherman and loved spending time listening to his favorite country and gospel songs. Roger is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dawn; daughter and son-in-law, Karla and Mike Schmid of Appleton; daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Scott Grefsheim of Madison; grandchildren, Tanner and Kailey Grefsheim and Jared and Luke Schmid; brothers and sisters-in-law, Russ and Joann Throndson of Madison, Doug and Janet Nesheim of Mt. Horeb, Bill and Carolyn Murphy of Verona and their families; nieces, Julie and Beth Anne Rettenmund and Susan Schlub and family of Mt. Horeb; and other relatives and many friends.   He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Rudy Rettenmund.  Funeral services will be held at the GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, with Chaplain Wayne Shannon presiding.  Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Oakwood Foundation, Agrace HospiceCare or Alzheimer’s Association.  The family would like to extend sincere thanks and gratitude for the excellent care administrated by the staff at Oakwood and Agrace Hospice Care.       Gunderson East Funeral & Cremation Care 5203 Monona Drive 608-221-5420
