Eloi C. Schmitt

DANE – The Town of Dane lost another good farmer. Eloi C. Schmitt, age 84, stopped farming on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. He was born to Peter P. and Margaret (Wipperfurth) Schmitt on March 5, 1933, in the same home he and Mary Lou raised their 7 children.  Eloi married Mary Lou McIntyre on October 6, 1959 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lodi. Eloi was proud to farm side by side with his family. His favorite times of the year were planting, and combining. After retirement, Eloi enjoyed spending time at Lucy’s for his coffee shop “Education Hour”. Eloi continued to supervise the farm from his gator. God only knows how many miles he and Lilly put on the gator during their travels. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; children, Steve (Fay), Kathy (John) Endres, Pete, Julie (Phil) Richards, Joan (Larry) Karls, Dan (Stacy); son-in-law, Jeff Meffert; 20 Grandchildren, Jessica, Emily, Steven, Rachelle, Kim, Joe, Monica, Hannah, Shani, Travis, Jeremy, Shaina, Aaron, Miranda, Melinda, Christina, Megan, Luke, Lilly and Madelyn; 12 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way;  sisters, Margaret Werla and Janet Schmitt and many other relatives.  Eloi was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Ann Meffert; siblings, Norbert, Helen, Evelyn Gilles, Viola, Roman, and Louanne. Eloi lived to farm.  Visitation will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the GUNDERSON LODI FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 157 South Main St., Lodi. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018, 12 noon at ST. MICHAEL’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 109 S. Military Rd., Dane.
