Obituary

MIDDLETON-Our father, Herbert Jacob Muehlemann, age 95, was reunited with his loving wife, Betty, on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, surrounded by his loving daughters, Jackie, Jean and Gerry.  Herb was the youngest of 13 children born to Swiss immigrants, Fred and Marie Muehlemann, on Sept. 19, 1922, in Primrose, Wis.   Dad was in the U.S. Army Air Force serving as a waist gunner during World War II in Italy.  He was proud to have shaken hands with Pope Pius XII during his stay.  Over the years, our parents attended many of the 485th bomb group reunions all over the United States.  Herb was honored by attending the Badger Honor Flight on Sept. 8, 2013.  Herb married Elizabeth “Betty” Middleton on May 29, 1945, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Middleton.  Together they had three daughters, Jacqueline Joyce (Len) Becker, Jean Marie Muehlemann and Geraldine “Gerry” Ross.  Herb worked for Oscar Mayer for 38 years, along with many other part-time jobs.  He volunteered with R.E.A.D.I. group, VFW Post No. 216-Middleton and St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.  Herb was always a busy man.  He loved woodworking, completing many projects, fixing small engines, gardening, antique tractors, his 20 acres of land, bowling in his younger years, putzing in the garage, in the house and anywhere where he was needed.  He was a supporter of the Middleton Home Talent baseball team for many years.  Herb was an avid Cubs fan.  His greatest success was joining Alcoholics Anonymous in January 1980 and continuing his sobriety to the end.  Dad had a special relationship with each of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Along with his three daughters and son-in-law, Len, he is survived by his grandchildren, Brian Becker, Sheila Trzebny, Shannon Becker, Brenda Arnett, Jon Becker, Joie Muehlenbruch, Jillene Anderson, Tony Ross, and Michael Ross; great-grandchildren, Kelly and Zach Herson, Nicholas Arnett, MyKenzie and Ayden Anderson, Jesalyn and Jaxyn Muehlenbruch, Abbie, Dayna and Maribel Ross.  Herb was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty; granddaughter, Deanna Ross; parents, Fred and Marie; sisters, Hannah Jelle, Betty Venden, Mary Sandridge, and Melvina Williams; brothers, Johnny, Werner and William Muehlemann and their spouses. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018.   Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens with military rights.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday.  The family would like to thank Stoughton Meadows and SSM Hospice for the loving care he received and to Pastor Paula Geister-Jones from Christ Lutheran Church in Stoughton, for her loving songs and prayers.  A special thank you to Rob Gibson from St. Luke’s Church who visited and prayed with our parents for many years.  Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.Gunderson WestFuneral & Cremation Care7435 University Avenue(608)831-6761

I was privileged to have spent some time with Herb. Thoroughly enjoyed our time together, lots of stories and good humor. I am a woodworker and handy man as was Herb so there was lots we could talk about. For me his passing marks the end of a generation which experienced so many things I cannot relate to. This made our conversations quite interesting. I will miss seeing him a lot and will miss his stories and outlook on life. He was a man who could have complained with valid reasons. I never heard him complain about his health issues, he only referred to them briefly. Me wife Bonnie always looked forward to visiting with Herb and hearing his stories even the ones she heard before! His passing leaves a huge empty place in her heart as she will miss him greatly. We deeply appreciate the family allowing us to interact with Herb and Betty and getting to know them as friends. As a result our lives were enriched and we will miss them greatly. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time and the weeks ahead. Glenn & Bonnie Heller
