Joyce Marion Archer

MONONA-Joyce M. Archer passed away on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Care Center after a brief illness.  She was born in 1926, in Cumberland, Wis., to Emil and Ellen (Pierson) Johnson. She married James Archer in 1945, and had two children, Gloria and Douglas. They moved to Madison in 1953.  She loved to crochet and her afghans and doilies were cherished by all. One of her greatest joys was baking and decorating cookies with her grandchildren, even though there was more frosting and sprinkles on the faces and floor than the cookies.  Joyce is survived by her daughter, Gloria; daughter-in-law, Jean Archer; grandchildren, Deana, Andrew, James, Jared, Jordan and Callie, and their spouses; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; son, Douglas; parents; and five brothers.  A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018.  A luncheon will follow the service.  Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
