Troy David Thomsen

MONONA/JEFFERSON-Troy D. Thomsen, our beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle and friend, joined our Lord in Heaven on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, from an apparent heart attack. Troy was born on March 16, 1974, in Madison, the son of David and Mary Lou (Lobenstein) Thomsen.  He graduated from Jefferson High School, class of 1992.  Troy married the love of his life, Karla Manka, on Oct. 13, 2007, in Madison. She was the center of his world. Troy loved his family more than words can express; he loved spending time with his kids, whether it was at the skate park, taking them ice skating, or coaching them.  Karla, the twins, and his beloved dogs were the smile on his face, they were always the first and last topic he talked about.  He was so proud of them. He was a journeyman electrician and a member of the Local Union No. 159 IBEW. Everyone who knew Troy will remember his goofy sense of humor and energy. He was passionate about Veteran charities and honoring their service. Troy is survived by his wife, Karla; children, Brody and Harlowe Thomsen; his parents, David and Mary Lou Thomsen; sister, Michelle Lee Thomsen; niece, Melissa Lynn Bruhn; nephew, Trevor Bruhn; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jerry and Ilene Manka; sisters-in-law, Kim (Heath) Straka, Kristi (Tom) Bartos; seven nieces and nephews; other relatives, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Peter and Dorothy Thomsen; maternal grandparents, John and Doris Lobenstein; and favorite companion, Brutus.  Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, with Father Thomas Coyle presiding.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial for Troy and Karla’s children, Harlowe and Brody.
